Inggu disebut Ruta angustifolia( L.) merupakan tanaman semak, tinggi dapat mencapai 1,5 meter. Batang berkayu, bulat, percabangan simpodial, warna hijau muda. Daun majemuk, anak daun berbentuk lanset atau bulat telur, pangkal runcing, ujung tumpul, tepi rata, panjang 8-20 mm, lebar 2-6 mm, warna hijau. Bunga majemuk, mahkota bentuk mangkok, warna kuning. Buah kecil, lonjong, terbagi atas 4 kotak, warna cokelat. Tanaman inggu dapat tumbuh pada dataran rendah 100-1000 mdpl.
Tanaman herba ini memiliki rasa pedas, agak pahit, dingin, berkhasiat sebagai pereda demam (antipiretik), penglihang nyeri (analgesik), anti radang, penawar racun (anti toksik), membuyarkan pembekuan darah, pereda kejang (anti konvulsan), peluruh haid (emenagog), stimultan pada sistem saraf dan kandungan (uterus).
Tanaman ini memiliki kandungan minyak atsiri yang mengandung metil nonilketon sampai 90%, ketone, pinena, 1-limonena, cineol, asam rutinat, kokusaginin, edulinine, skimmianine, beragapten, graveoline, graveolinine, asam rudic, rutin, rhammo glikosid, quersetin flavenol, xanthotoxin, dan sedikit tianin. Minyak atsiri digunakan juga pada industri kosmetik, pembuatan sabun, krem, dan wangi-wangian.
