Sandi Vigenère merupakan bentuk sederhana dari sandi substitusi polialfabetik. Sandi Vigenère adalah metode menyandikan teks alfabet dengan menggunakan deretan sandi Caesar berdasarkan huruf-huruf pada kata kunci. Penemu sandi ini adalah Giovan Batista Belaso. Ia menjelaskan metode sandi ini dalam buku nya yang berjudul La cifra del. Sig. Giovan Batista Belaso (1553); dan disempurnakan oleh diplomat Perancis yaitu Blaise de Vigenère, pada tahun 1586. Itulah yang menyebabkan sandi ini dikenal luas sebagai "sandi Vigenère. Karena pada abad ke-19, banyak orang yang mengira Vigenère lah penemu sandi ini. Sandi ini dikenal dengan cara kerjanya yang mudah dijalankan, namun bagi pemula memang silut dipecahkan. Sandi ini memiliki berbagai macam penyelesaian, contohnya penyelesaian rumus dan penyelesaian tabel.
- Penyelesaian Rumus 1
Rumus enkripsi vigenere cipher ( pembuatan soal ) :
Ci = ( Pi + Ki ) – 26 >> kalau hasil penjumlahan Pi dan Ki lebih dari 26.
Kalau tidak lebih dari 26 maka rumusnya hanya :
Ci = ( Pi + Ki )
- Penyelesaian Rumus 2
Rumus dekripsi vigenere cipher ( penyelesaian soal ) :
Pi = ( Ci – Ki ) + 26 kalau hasil pengurangan Ci dengan Ki minus.
Kalau tidak lebih dari 26 maka rumusnya hanya :
Pi = ( Ci – Ki )
Ket:
C = Chiper atau soalnya
P = Plain atau Jawabannya
K = Kata Kunci
Ci = nilai desimal karakter ciphertext ke-i-
Pi = nilai desimal karakter plaintext ke-i
Ki = nilai desimal karakter kunci ke-i
