The characther dynamic of John and Beranard is a verry intresting one. Beranard is an outcast in the world state and John is an outcast in the reservation neither man fits in and while they are similar in the regard they are opposite in the fact that John despreatly wants to go to the world state while Bernard desperatly wants to leave. The irony in the residents of the world state calling John a "savage" is extremely evident. John to us a readers is more civalized and less savage than any of the world state residents, John enjoys reading shakespear and he doesn't always just go for instant gratification in eveything like those in the world state do.He didn't go after Lenina when he had the chance even though most memebers of the world state would. At this point in the novel I think it is easy to spot the differences between this book and 1984, Orwell feared in the future knowladge would be held from us and Huxley feared that we would be given too much information and too much irelevent information that we wouldn't care about the truth or care about important things. Orwell feared that people would be controled through inflicting pain and Huxley feared that people would be controled by inflicting pleasure. In Brave New World everyone in the world state has so much sex and takes so much drugs (soma) that they are passive and un-rebellious, even Bernard who is the most rebelious character to the world state that we have met quick;y forgot his rebellion and had sex with Leninina after taking lots of soma even though the next day he said he would have prefered they didn't. I tend to think both Orwell and Huxely were right about our modern times now, Orwell because of how important information is hidden from us and how facebook and google constintly watch what we are doing. But Huxley was right as well because of how much T.V people watch and how much alchohol people drink and the sex people have etc the fact that more people vote for American Idol than they do the presidential election shows that Huxleys vison of a society ruled by pleasure at the expense of knowladge could quickly become reality.
