Lilac: A New Musical

SUMMARY:
LILAC is a maid at Magic Maids in Pennsylvania, in a small town where she has grown up her entire life. She is working extra hours to cover expenses for her brother ANDY, who has just gotten out of a car accident and is now wheelchair-bound and severely mentally impaired, because her parents are currently caught up in divorce proceedings. She ends up cleaning at the house of JACKSON KEYES, who is a CEO of a major company (what company, we don't know yet..). He is an escape for Lilac who is dealing with her family being torn apart and her brother's life changing drastically. They end up in an affair, but things go bad quickly when Jackson's secretary, KRYSTA ALBRIGHT, finds out about the relations and due to her feelings for Jackson, exposes the two of them. Life turns upside down for the two of them, and Lilac has to maintain her home life while dealing with the press hunting her down, meanwhile Jackson trashes her publicly and destroys her name. How will Lilac recover?

LILAC SCHULTE (18-30)
A tough worker and child of a dysfunctional family. Although she is strong willed and a hard worker, she lacks in life experience and can be naive. Not sure on how an actual relationship functions. Trying to fill an unattainable role: caretaker and provider for a household while managing a life for herself. Caught in between two different lives. Actress who plays Lilac should be able to convey emotion properly and look young, although she can be as old as 30 if she can pull it off and a good singer who has both a strong upper and lower range. Alto.

JACKSON KEYES (35-50)
Cocky, but not unkind. Tender, but also willing to put his foot down. Very conscious of his reputation and how the world perceives him, and trying to keep his company successful. Does not love Lilac, but cares some for her. Actor should be and look somewhat older than Lilac. Tenor.

CASEY WERNER (18-30)
A maid at Magic Maids. A friend and confidante to Lilac, sassy and a great comedic actor. Should be funny and can charm a crowd; provides comic relief during tough spots of the show. Should be a strong singer. Mezzo-soprano.

GRACIE WERNER (18-30)
Another maid, twin to Casey. (NOTE: Actress who play the Werner twins do not need to look identical, but some resemblance should be there. If not possible to cast similar looking actresses, it's fine.) However, she is much more timid and softer than her sister. Should be a good singer who can BELT. Mezzo-soprano.

KRYSTA ALBRIGHT (20-40)
Jackson's long-time secretary who knows him incredibly well. Wants nothing more than to be his girlfriend or wife, and has a deep unrequited love for him, but does not act on it, fearing rejection. She is not inherently evil, but leaks his affair in some sort of weird way to get affection after a failed attempt of seduction. Actress who plays Krysta should be able to be sultry, but also sweet. Alto.

ENSEMBLE (Lilac's Parents, News Reporters, Maids, News Caster)
News reporters and the caster can be played by either women or men (News Caster is referred to as Carmen Christenson, but name can be changed to be more masculine if you want). Maids, however, should be female, and Lilac's parents should be a man and a woman (song lyrics refer to them as that). Cast appropriately.
