Robust estimation of std deviation - Median of first order differences. Estimating mean and variance in presence of outliers.
Goal : Detect moving objects in images.
Interframe differencing - method 1. Simple method, compare 2 consecutive frames. Assumes stationary objects have same intensity values across 2 frames. Problems - left over noise, not always clean, illumination changes because of noise, camera jitter.
Background subtraction - method 2 . Assumes - Camera stationary, constant illumination, large isolated moving objects. Have a template background image, do image subtraction to detect change.
Background subtaaction, erode to clean noise, detect labelled object in image, find largest detected component. Contrast difference with background will be low, will not work well in realstic cases.
