Deve kuşunun arkasında durmuş. Pençesiyle deve kuşunun ayağına şöyle bir dokunmuş.
“Arkadaş, bakar mısın? Biraz sohbet edelim, canım sıkılıyor da” diyecekmiş ki burnunun üstüne yediği tekme ile sırtüstü yere yığılmış.
Deve kuşu şaşkın bir halde ne oldu, kime vurdum, diyerek kafasını kumdan çıkarmış. Bakmış aslan boylu boyunca yatıyor. Öldüğünü zannetmiş. Çevrede ne kadar deve kuşu varsa toplayıp getirmiş.
Başlamış palavra atmaya:
“Yok işte aslan gelip ona sataşmış. Bu da demiş ki: Bak aslan git sonra canını yakarım. Aslan hakaret etmiş, bunu itelemiş. Bu da aslanı ayağının altına almış, çiğnemiş, yerlerde sürüklemiş.“
Diğerleri de deve kuşuna katılmışlar. Atmışlar, tutmuşlar. Biz olsaydık şöyle yapardık, böyle yapardık diye.
Baygın aslan kendine gelince bakmış herkes atıp tutuyor. Bir kükremiş, yer gök inlemiş. Bütün deve kuşları kafalarını kuma sokmuş. Aslan orada fazla eğlenmemiş, kaçıp gitmiş.
