2. Die "Gen-Kanone" wird eingeschaltet, Gas (Helium) strömt mit hoher Geschwindigkeit (mehr als 1000 Meter pro Sekunde) aus.
3. Das Gas presst die Metallpartikel mit der DNA durch das Sieb, diese werden in die Zellen geschossen. Der Träger bleibt am Sieb zurück.
4. Die DNA tritt durch die Zellwand in den Zellkern und wird dort nach dem Zufallsprinzip ins Genom eingebaut.
Das Verfahren wird hauptsächlich bei Pflanzenzellen verwendet, um neben der Zellmembran auch die Pflanzenzellwand zu durchdringen. Die meisten Zellen sterben bei dem Verfahren ab. Nur einige wenige Zellen überleben.
