Ömer Seyfettin Life

Ömer Seyfettin, one of the most important storytellers of Turkish literature, was born in 1884 in Gönen. His father is Mr. Ömer Şevki, his mother is Mrs. Fatma. His education began at the local school. Then, Ömer Seyfettin, who was enrolled to Mekteb-i Osmani, continued his education at the military Baytar middle school. After graduating in 1896, he entered Edirne military high school and graduated in 1900.In 1903 he
graduated from the Mekteb-i Harbiye-i Şahane as Infantry Sub-Lieutenant.

In 1911 Ali Canip Yöntemi and Ziya Gokalp together with "Young Pencils" wrote his magazine. The first article entitled "New Language" published in the magazine, constitutes the starting point of National Literature.

Ömer Seyfettin, who worked in the army for a while, to be able to give himself to the writing life afterwards gave compensation and left the army. But on the beginning of the Balkan War, He was summoned again.

At Yanya Castle, prisoner has fallen. After a year's imprisonment he returned to Istanbul.

Omer Seyfettin, who made the magazine titled "Türk Sözü", started to teach literature at Kabataş High School in 1914. He died on 6 March 1920's.
