Death.

Death was normal in the cycle of life, it's your exit from the human world and your entrance to somewhere else. Whether it be heaven or hell was up to the persons past or their beliefs.

But this time, death wasn't normal.

What happened wasn't normal.

The Steel Tipped Killer massacre.

One day in the peaceful town of Pontiac, a strange man entered and changed the lives of everyone who lived there.

The townsmen took him as a normal stranger coming through, maybe he was heading up north for some beach-side activities? Maybe he was heading for the capital for some legal work?

But no, instead what they ended up with was a stone-cold killer who showed the people things that weren't told meant to be public, things that the government kept secret for a reason.

93% of the town's population was eradicated that day, their lives taken by one man who's identity stayed unknown.

The Steel Tipped Killer.

Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and save the town, my home town.

But what could I do about it? For all I know this Steel Affinity User could've killed me ruthlessly like he did the other townsfolk who fought back.

Nowadays I try hard not to think about the past, not to think about how life could've been different if he had never come into town and been the reasoning for me being placed in a Foster Home in Capital City.

What if my parents were still alive? What if my sister had been moved out of Pontiac and into Capital City with me?

I'll probably never know.

But maybe that's a good thing.

Maybe if I hadn't lost my parents I would've never started Neo Highschool in Capital City.

Maybe I would've never found out I was a Wind User and would've ended up becoming a farmer boy like my father.

Maybe what happened set me on the right path in life.

Does it mean I'll ever forgive the man who killed the people I loved?

No.

But it just means I have something to fight for if I ever see him again.

And this time, I'll protect those I love at all cost.

Capital City

December 14th, 3217

"Who you calling short, nerd?"

"Who you calling a nerd, you baby pig!" There was a sound of shuffling as two boys were about to get into a fight; a meaningless one, but still a fight on school grounds. Aura Marine, the nerd, grabbed Pig-boy by the collar, causing the collar of the shirt to become slightly soaked with cold water.

Suddenly, a large gust hit the two, separating them by a couple of feet. Aura growled and looked around. "Who in the-" He stopped as his eyes landed on a boy with long raven black hair, a white hoodie, and light blue jeans. "Oh...it's you."

The boy started to walk forward, coming in between Aura and the other boy as he glared Aura down. "What did I tell you about fighting people?" Aura looked down at his feet, it almost felt like his mom scolding him for not doing the laundry.

"Not to do it..."

"And what did you just try doing?"

"Punching him..."

"Which ensues a what?"

"A fight..."

"Good job, maybe next time you'll actually pay attention to-"

"Excuse me! But who the hell are you!?" Pig-boy was now angry at the fact his quarrel was interrupted, he angrily stomped his way towards the newcomer.

"Oh me? My names Alexandrite Mica, but you can just call me Alex, nice to meet-" He was cut off by the sound of fist meeting cheek, he found his head facing towards the floor, with his cheek now hurting a bit.

His left eye twitched as he felt himself start to get angry. 'Calm down Alex... just count to ten then it will all be over.' He let out a soft sigh.

"Serves you right, nerd-boy."

'I'm gonna end this Miss Piggy looking asshole.' Alex's head shot up as he felt a tug in his gut, suddenly there was a large gust of wind, strong enough to push the kid forward and in punching distance of Alex.

Alex quickly made a fist and swung it, making a direct impact with the boy's cheek. The boy staggered backward, ready to continue forward and strike back until suddenly a gust of wind kept him back and pushed him down to the ground.

Alex wrinkled his nose, the heavy pulling in his gut leaving as he turned to a flabbergasted Aura. "Let's go."

Aura looked towards the boy on the ground, back at Alex, then back to the boy before regaining composure. "Alright...mom." Aura received a death glare from his so-called 'Mother' before following quickly behind.

~

Usually, the thought of fighting always gets crossed out of my mind, until someone either punches a friend, or me.

Then it becomes fair game.

I despise having to fight because it forces me to use my Affinity.

Actually, I should probably explain what an Affinity is.

Affinities are abilities most humans have access to, there are only eight Affinities, usually sectioned off by people in half, it starts with Water, Wind, Fire, and Earth. People who have these abilities are able to control their respective elements.

People with Water can manipulate Water and do whatever they want with it, some being able to change the temperature and others being able to slice through things with it.

Earth can control the landscape with ease, being able to take a chunk from the ground and tossing it at something or someone, it's really popular with construction.

Fire is able to summon Fire at will, having the ability to either use a lighter for a cigarette or to burn down an entire house.

And then there's Wind.

They can control air.

And, you know.

Make people trip over I guess?

Those are the main four, and the most popular in terms of people who gain them.

There is also an additional set of four, Mind, Heavenly, Mystic and Acceleration.

Those are a little more rare in terms of people who obtain them but don't worry, once one becomes a topic of discussion I'll explain what they do.

My Affinity is Wind, also known as probably the weakest compared to the other main three.

The Affinity itself is pretty simple, I have almost complete control over Air.

The reason I say almost is because sometimes I can do things on accident, for example, one time my teacher graded my paper on 'How Dinosaurs Are Fake' an F because I didn't use enough evidence, then suddenly her wig flew off into the distance.

Actually, that probably wasn't an accident. But, I hadn't done it consciously, my annoyance had led to a huge gust of wind blowing her fake toupee.

My Affinity isn't something really fancy, or useful, in fact, I really haven't found a use for it other then being able to make a kid trip over with it, meanwhile, Aura can literally drown people if he so wanted to.

Life just doesn't seem fair sometimes.

Although, there is something I am leaving out when it comes to Affinities, and that's the amount I said.

I said that they're eight in total, except that isn't entirely true, well unless maybe you were going off History Books.

As mentioned before, I'm one of the only people to have been able to make it out of the Steel Tipped Massacre, but in reality that's only the name I had given it because nobody else had ever seemed to know about it or even acknowledge what actually happened during it.

That night, I saw something.

I saw an Affinity that wasn't in any official record and definitely wasn't acknowledged by anyone here.

That man, the Steel-Tipped Killer, used some sort of metal during his rampage, metal that came out of his body.

It was strange and sometimes even liquid-like, it was a bright silver, which is why I had dubbed it a Steel Affinity.

Of course, that probably wasn't an official name for it, if there even was one.

That's always made me question Affinities, and why there hadn't been any other ones, more unique and diverse ones.

Sometimes, it made me question if the Government of Capital City was hiding something from the people inside? What if they were hiding things they didn't want us to know?
