What is Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), also called Oriental medicine, dates back thousands of years. However, its basic principle is that a life-force, called Qi, swells and moves through the body in rhythms called "chi" or "qi." Any disturbance to the flow of chi can result in illness and disease. This basic principle underlies all the different Chinese medicines.

One of the most important concepts of traditional Chinese medicine is yin and yang. Yin, also known as female energy, is all about the feminine aspects of our nature, such as tenderness, beauty and love. Yang, on the other hand, is a male energy that represents strength, power and strength. In ancient times, Yin was considered separate entities. In fact, the concept of yin and yang was developed by Chinese astrologers so that people would not become ill because of an imbalance between the two. Modern medical science recognizes the importance of yin and yang in determining the health of a person. According to modern medical knowledge, one cannot be healthy unless both yin and yang are present and balanced in the human body.

The goal of an oriental medicine practitioner is to achieve the perfect yin-yang balance in the patient. This can be achieved by acupuncture, herbal formulas and massage therapy. To help a patient achieve balance, an oriental medicine practitioner may use herbs such as ginseng, long tzi, and panax ginseng. To maximize the benefits for each individual, these herbs are combined in special formulations.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbs have long been associated with traditional Chinese medicine. Acupuncture can be used to promote overall health and unblock energy flow (qi). There are nine distinct meridians that run throughout the body and each meridian is said to correspond to an organ or part of the body that needs treating. When energy is not flowing properly, diseases or conditions manifest themselves in the form of ailments.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, if you wish to achieve good health, you must maintain a healthy life force or qi. In order to do this, you must avoid smoking, alcohol, drugs, and anything else that deplete your body's qi. To strengthen your body's defense system, you must eat healthy foods and exercise regularly. Poor health is often associated in Chinese culture with obesity. Chinese doctors recommend acupuncture for patients with obesity or weight problems.

Traditional Chinese medicine (tcm), believes there are seven bodies, or yin, that are linked to natural healing. These bodies are called yin, yang, Shen (visiting), Jia (mind), Shen (metal), Fuxi (fire), and Wu (water). When these bodies are out of balance, illnesses can occur.

Traditional Chinese medicine (tcm), which focuses on the use of natural healing properties in animals and plants to treat illnesses and improve health, is a form of traditional Chinese medicine. I'm also incorporating acupuncture into its holistic approach to illness. Some tcm practices also incorporate herbal remedies such as Mistletoe, Chinese wolfberry, Red Peony, Licorice Root, and Ginseng. Many of these herbs are also available in your local grocery store's health foods section or the health food vitamin aisle.

Because many people are wary of acupuncture and other alternative methods of medicine, it can be difficult for the uninitiated to seek out an acupuncturist. Fortunately, there are many certified acupuncture and tcm practitioners available today. Many more can be found online. Before choosing a practitioner, make sure that they have been trained by a certified tcm practitioner, that they provide the proper training for the modalities they practice, and that they follow strict guidelines on providing care and on collecting payment from clients.
