The Aggression Scale The killer in you

Forgotten by his parents, Macaulay Culkin defended himself in "Kevin - Alone at Home" with all sorts of ingenious pranks against two idiotic burglars. Chris Columbus' comedy became a great success, with "Kevin - Alone in New York" quickly found the first of meanwhile three Sequels and now flickers regularly on the screens at Christmas. Now he is experiencing a strange reinterpretation: For "The Aggression Scale", director Steven C. Miller ("Run for Blood") took the basic concept of the "Kevin" films to his chest, boldly turned it through the meat grinder and served a bloody adult version The family classic. If you have a higher degree of malicious pleasure and don't ask too many questions about logic and probability, "The Aggression Scale" is made for you. Because under these conditions the nasty home invasion thriller is definitely fun.

Reg Bellavance (Ray Wise) is really mad. The gang boss has just been released on bail and now has 48 hours to leave the country unnoticed. All suitcases are already packed when he notices that someone has looted his vacation fund, which is overflowing with $ 500,000. Furious, he rounds up the team of contract killer Lloyd (Dana Ashbrook), who immediately go in search of the missing money. In order to narrow down the circle of suspects, Reg has drawn up a list of all the people who could have misappropriated the money. Bill Rutledge (Boyd Kestner) is also on the said list and indeed: For a chic home in the country, he used the gang boss. Bad mistake. When Lloyd and his gang arrive at the new residence of Bill's blended family, his son Owen (Ryan Hartwig) is (almost) alone at home. But the teenager proves to be extremely defensive. Solar movies With cunning and cunning, he turns the criminal troop's life into hell and does everything to save himself and his new sister Lauren (Fabianne Therese) ...

Director Steven C. Miller knows exactly where the strengths of his film lie. He doesn't dwell long on trivialities and quickly sets the stage for the big appearance of Satansbraten Owen, who doesn't say much - to be precise, he doesn't speak a single word - but has different qualities. The sadistically inclined MacGyver blend - from his criminal record it emerges that he scored a questionable 99.5 out of 100 possible points on the eponymous aggression scale - can effortlessly open locks, master medical interventions and can use heavy weapons. His specialty, however, are perfidious traps: a branch that leaps out at knee height is just as much a part of the repertoire as carpet knife blades attached to the window sill - and these ambushes are even harmless compared to what Owen has in store for the intruders in the grand finale.

The standards of logic don't get you very far with "The Aggression Scale". The burglars rarely behave stupidly over and over again and let themselves be lured into ruin again and again with the simplest sleight of hand will later save life in a miraculous way or conceive the most complicated traps in no time at all, that also makes only limited sense. But if you let it spoil your fun, you are simply sitting in the wrong film. What matters more is that the action after a short introduction is very important runs monotonously: One trap after the other is set and the attackers stumble in. After the first bloody attacks, the concept of "The Aggression Scale" soon shows noticeable signs of wear and tear. Only in the violent finale does Miller play all the trump cards again and lets Owen pull out all the stops of his morally questionable ability one last time.

Conclusion: "Kevin - Alone at Home" for adults: "The Aggression Scale" offers a concentrated load of bloody glee with considerable entertainment value, which, however, decreases noticeably in the middle section.
