God Tier Albums
SOUR (Olivia Rodrigo)
The way this album captures this feeling of heartbreak and hatred and betrayal, God, it’s perfect. We go from Brutal which makes you want to light a bunch of cars on fire, smashing in their windows with a baseball bat, while walking on across their roofs in a punk rock outfit to hope ur ok, a song about aching for lost friends whose lives sucked and, y’know, hoping they were okay, despite not talking anymore. She’s so versatile, she’s got something for everyone— sad girl ballads, punk rock guitar smashing songs, single-tear-shed-as-you’re-leaning-your-head-
against-the-car-window songs. Immaculate.

SCHOOL SPIRIT (fredo disco)
I am fully aware that this is exactly the type of music that wannabe edgy white boys who wear rings and thinks that makes them non-toxic listens to, hoping someone will ask him so that he can take out one earbud and in a voice, so high-pitched (yet raspy from his worsening nicotine addiction), “No, it’s pretty underground, you probably wouldn’t even like them.” But it doesn’t matter because I am actually cool and therefore listen to cool music. It’s just a notch below scream-singing and banging and really basic guitar chords with a couple of sad songs sprinkled in and it slaps, I don’t make the rules.

WASTELAND, BABY! (Hozier)
Words should not be needed. This album rips my beating heart out of my chest and takes a bite every time I listen to it. I’m not religious, but I’d listen to Hozier croon the Bible, I’m not joking. He respects women and doesn’t sing about them grossly or anything, so you should be sold by now. All his lyrics sound like something out of a Greek epic or Victorian-era letters between forbidden lovers, he worships the ground women walk on and sings about us and asks for nothing in return.

KID KROW (Conan Gray)
I always tell myself I won’t cry and then Little League plays and I’m sobbing. This one is just growing pains, everything that comes with growing out of childhood, and you can feel it in your bones in. Every. Song. It’s insane.

THE SWING (INXS)
The first album I owned on vinyl. I listened to it at 2AM, only got up to flip it over, and then when it was done, I started it over again. I have no idea what it is about this album, probably the fact that it made me feel like a Sad Girl in the 70s but you know what that’s okay.

NATION OF TWO (Vance Joy)
Yes, he wrote Riptide. The other songs are so much better, pinky swear. This one still got sad, crooning vocals, don’t worry, not deviating from my pattern, bUT it is more about being in love and head-over-heels and being so devoted to one person against all odds.

kILL Me/I’m not singing/I’m asking/LUHOCKED IN A CAGE WITH ALL OF THE RATS/I SLIPPED THROUGH THE CRACKS/ AND NOW I’M STUCK WITH THE SCRAPS/ AND I CAN’T SEEM TO FIND MY WAY BACK” you can’t tell me that doesn’t rile you up. Also, its chorus has a rhythm and sound similar to A Pearl by Mitski, can’t explain it but I’m right)

Mitski — her entire discography, her voice is so clear and sweet. Her songs feel like cupping cool,
spring water in your palms after a long hike up a mountain and just drinking and drinking and drinking, hidden in the foliage. It’s a sad, tired, and overjoyed satisfaction, really good for coming down from a sobbing mental breakdown. Current favorite is Class of 2013
