My high school has a wonderful mix of nationalities and cultures. Growing up in Hong Kong with friends from different parts of the world has taught me to learn from and appreciate different cultures and peoples. Hong Kong has the vibrancy, the energy, the boldness that Chicago and Northwestern undoubtedly have.

I have also been fortunate enough to learn about different cultures and ethnicities during my travels across Asia, Europe and America. I was able to learn a lot more about my home country, India, during my student exchange program in the summer of 2013.

In present times, I believe that there is nothing more important than being able to appreciate and understand people and cultures other than one's own. Especially so for our generation as we grow up in an increasingly suspicious and polarized world.

Having visited the campus in August of this year, I got a sense of the wonderful environment and most importantly felt very comfortable in the surroundings. Northwestern no doubt, would reinforce and add to my development and education in a multicultural and truly international environment. As far as the course that I plan to do for my undergraduate degree, I cannot think of a better place than the School of Communication, not just because of its alumni and the reputation, but the mere fact that like its host city, it provides a mix of students and faculty that perfectly blend different cultures, languages, thoughts and ideas that are drawn from across the globe. All this, coupled with the technical skills garnered and honed at Northwestern, will best prepare me for my journey as a filmmaker.

I believe that what I have learnt across geographies, people and cultures can be shared with my peers at Northwestern and I can draw on my experiences to add value not just for my fellow students, but hopefully in a humble way to the school itself.
