You are a business analyst in a new company, where your stakeholders are located in different cities, and you are preparing for elicitation; what three techniques would you use and why?

When I need to prepare a elicitation with the stakeholders in different cities, I will use those three techniques

1. Brainstorming: This technique can help me know what kind of business analysis information will be consulted and which are the better elicitation techniques for following tasks. Because the stakeholders are in different cities, it will cost more time and resources to communicate with them. By using brainstorming, I can prepare what kind of information I will collect from the stakeholders. It will make the elicitation more effective.

2.Interviews: Have a online interviews with all the stakeholders when prepare the elicitation. Interview is a effective technique to collect the information and decide what is important in the elicitation. Before the elicitation start, I can get the opinion from stakeholders to know what content in the following elicitation.

3.Stakeholder map: The stakeholder are in different cities. Stakeholder map is the best technique to understand the stakeholders distribution. When I see the stakeholder map, I will know who can join the face to face meeting. Where is the most convenient meeting place for most stakeholders.

Assumption I am preparing elicitation for a new project, with stakeholders in different cities. I will use three techniques as following.

Interview is a way to understand the scope of elicitation, requirement of stakeholders, goals of project etc. I like to use it because it is fast way to make clear needs in short time. As the stakeholders locate in different cities, I will start a video meeting by Zoom or Google Meet, so all related stakeholders can join in meeting remotely. This will save a lot of time for travel and administrative costs.
Data mining is an effective technique to collect information and data. To prepare elicitation, I need to prepare large quantity of document and supporting material first.
Stakeholder personas can show stakeholders’ position, attitude, education, religion etc., which help the business analyst to prepare stakeholders.
