Halo 3 ODST - Different Perspective But Still Great Game Play
Halo 3 ODST, the prequel campaign between Halo 2 and Halo 3, offers users the unique opportunity to take on Covenant forces as a rookie Orbital Drop Shock Trooper instead of the head honcho Master Chief. Although the rookie characters are smaller- about the size of the grunts that the Master Chief towers over- and have less armor and weapon choices than offered in previous games, they still hold their own in battle and get the job done.

Halo 3 ODST mainly encompasses street scenes in the city of New Mombasa. Rookies seek out beaconed items abandoned by missing members of their squad. Once located, the rookies are able to board the vehicles that are missing their comrades. One of the best features of this game is that it allows the players the chance to choose different perspective views. Rookies can only see from one angle, but they can switch to the other while on the vehicle. This is a relief especially when dealing with multiple enemies who may be shooting at the same time.

Another glaring problem with Halo 3 ODST, however, is that the teammates that the rookies dialog with do not share the same experience level as the rookies themselves. This does not change the fact that the rookies are going to be in exactly the same position as the enemies that they are fighting. This problem does not garner any points for difficulty, either, as it is unfair to rookie players that have to face higher level enemies in order to receive the same experience that a less experienced player in the same situation would normally receive.

Another, and more successful, method of increasing the experience that your squad mates acquire is dropped magnum rounds. Once the target is shot, a rapid shot is instilled as a replacement to the original bullet. This method of gaining points is, at least in my experience, among the easiest to use. I must say, however, that the magnum rounds are the least effective weapon to use when combating covenant forces.

To receive points for skills played, the individual missions in Halo 3 ODST are listed in order of completion and the points are awarded to players according to the amount of experience that they have gained for a particular mission. Once a mission has been completed, the experience bar is reset to the next level. The following items are available for use in each mission:

ances - This item is only available if you are playing the campaign and each involves an instance in which you must repeat a scene.

kills - Here, you are required to kill an enemy.

missions - This list varies according to the level in which you are playing and each involves a series of objectives that must be completed.

however, power ups are among the treasures that can be used in every level. They make all missions a lot easier and can be picked up along the way. Power ups come in many different forms and amount to different amounts. These include regular, titanium, fiber fist, escape, etc.

You earn "zeus points" by completing missions and the more points you earn, the higher your ranking is within the ranking ladder of the game. There are many places in the game that offer more points for several accomplishments, but these do not carry over to higher ranking missions.

There are many things to avoid when power-tinging the game , among these are the number of enemies that are attacking you. At the lower ranks, you may be struggling against a pack of maybe 250 covenant, if you are ranked usually around 360-400, you may easily overrun aReplacement fleet, for instance.

These replaced fleets do spawn an immense amount of covenant and is most of the time, a purple team will almost always be attacking you, no matter how many you kill. This is actually a great way to increase your rank in the game.

Remember, kill more than one scout at the same time, this would increase your chances of surpassing rank 350.

This is actually one of the hardest, and challenging, game play achievements in the entire Halo franchise, and the fun of playing Halo ODST is unquestionably, top notch among all other achievements.
