When you have identified the snake positively and know that it is not venomous, then the easiest way is to grab it with thick gloves and hold it for quite some time. It should be placed in a pillow case and moved elsewhere.
As an alternative to handling the snake, if you are unable to identify it, or it cannot be reached, a snake hook or snake tongs, such as those below, can be used.
REMEMBER, however, that snake bites are usually caused by people trying to catch or kill them. Maybe your best bet is just to leave them alone. The best option if you want it removed is a trap or a professional. For either, see the bottom of this page.
When you enjoy spending hours in the heat of the day bent over in the garden, there are few things that will unnerve you like a thin, long body suddenly slithering beneath your feet. Snakes like to follow you around the garden, so they watch you pull rocks and weeds out of the soil. As a result, you will probably become nervous when getting into dense clumps of vegetables, and eventually you will avoid your garden altogether. Verify what kind of snake you're dealing with before you try to catch it. It will take special skills to handle a poisonous snake. As long as the snake is not poisonous, you can begin.
To begin with, you must regain access to your garden. If you want to catch the snake, you will need to go there. Your goal is to distract the snake using a long branch, a yard stick, or fire poker. Your stick should be used to lift up the snake's head as quickly as possible. Using one hand to hold the snake's tail and the other hand to grasp the stick holding up the front of the snake, you should be able to reach the end. With this positioning, you will be able to control the reptile's body without putting yourself at risk. The snake must be moved to a safe place. If the animal cannot find a safe haven nearby, consider putting it in a pillowcase and transporting it by automobile. Release the snake by gently pointing its head in the desired travel direction. If you have a pillow case, gently drain the snake out so that it's partially still covered. Back away from the pillowcase after you've left it on the ground. Afterwards, you can retrieve your linen.
As an alternative if the above method seems too direct, you could use a large garbage can to flush the snake. You can guide the snake inside the bin with a broom by putting the bin on the ground. Make sure you don't hit or push the snake inside. Snakes will not be able to climb out of the bin because it has smooth sides.

A shirt and a pillowcase can be used to remove a snake that is inside the house. Your shirt or light blanket will be able to cover the snake, so fold it over and put it in the pillowcase. Place the pillowcase inside a garbage bin or a large storage container so the snake can emerge if you like. A lid with air holes should be placed on the container.
