How to stay current with music from your own country even if it's been 10 years since you left.

What do you do? I am an Russki young man who came to America to seek a better future. In Russia I was not wealthy. I was poor. This isn't me, per se. But my family. As a child in Russia, young adults didn’t have money. We needed to find different ways to earn money. There were many ways to earn money and most of them involved asking neighbours for money to purchase their communal vodka. Similar to the above we were always looking for ways to earn cash quickly to even purchase a loaf of bread. We would always be hungry.

So, I arrived in America. There's nothing quite as beautiful as New York City, Brooklyn, Brighton Beach. This place truly reminds of the comforts of home. It's loud, it's filthy, it's filled with Russian language, and people are rude, it's just normal Russian city experience. I've spent quite a bit of dollars there, mostly in Russian restaurants and bookstores and music stores.

I am a huge fan of music, just as I like reading books. It is now possible to browse Russian literature online, which is the case in recent times. So I stopped purchasing hard-copy books. In addition, I don't have enough space in my house. My wife is an avid collector. Therefore I do everything I can to not add to her pile of stuff. While the stacks of books appeared smart for the first couple of months however, they began to look dull and uninteresting as I realized that I had plenty of room for my other items.

However, music is something else. Since I am a driver as a driver, my job requires that I listen to plenty of music. As a Russian immigrants, I've never learned to like any new music I've found in the USA.. I don't really like rap, hip hop metal, rock, and pop. And all the new age music that children love to dance to. Old Russian music is something I love and also the Russian-specific songs that were played in jail. They're still very popular in Russia , even after twenty years. Youtube is home to everything. This is why I am constantly listening to music on Youtube after returning at home after a day off or after work.

After some time, I discovered a long playlist with over 300 songs that I like. It's my go-to partner. I listen to it every day and don't find it difficult to use. There are over 300 songs! However, when I want the songs to be played in my car, I don't always have access to the internet. I need it to drive, to navigate. I make the preparations at home. When I am at the top of the list, I record a few songs from Youtube and then convert them to MP3 files. After that, I burn the mp3s onto a CD using my laptop. I then take the disc to the car to listen to. It is also possible to use the Youtube playlist to print the songs. Each song is then transformed into MP3 and then saved to my computer. Then , it's simple to convert it into audio CD. Sometimes, I make data discs and it won't play on the car stereo. The quality of the recorded audio is incredible. It's cheap and easy to save videos on Youtube as MP3 files. After that, you can download them to your Smartphone. A friend of mine connected his smartphone to his car stereo and the phone started playing high quality sound in just a couple of seconds. He also could stream Spotify and Pandora radio. It's not a huge undertaking and doesn't require much Internet. I'm going to try this in the next.. I will, however, be careful when using wifi that is free.
