We have found 24-25 players is the best number to start your season out with. We mix and match until the number of players on each team is reached. My personal teams are usually missing 1 player before the season starts. They decide football is not for them. As the season progresses, we often lose 1 player per week due to sickness, injury, grades, and so on. Most games and practices have between 22 and 23 kids. This is the perfect number. I feel like 22 kids is enough to have 11 on 11. If we have 22, we can run our football play against a scout defensive of 11 players.
