Spain Gains Tons of Popularity Through the Digital News Initiative
The Digital News Initiative was established by Google to support high quality journalism across the continent through innovation and technology. It also covers an "Innovations Fund" value of Euros 150m, that in next coming years issued grants to 461 projects at leading news organisations around Europe. This initiative now has the backing of the EU Commission. This is one of the first concrete moves by the Commission to develop new media technologies in the digital arena, as it understands the importance of new media and how it can boost growth across the EU.

Digital news can be best described as the combination of traditional print and online medium together with additional features. It is a unique blend of traditional reporting, web content and interactive features. agency is also intended to provide the first step towards digital newsrooms offering a fully featured news experience, including a unique online newsfeed. The Digital News Initiative has set a number of objectives and targets for the upcoming years, including increasing the number of newspapers and magazines offering online news, the number of online news providers offering cross-platform news and increasing the reach of digital news in the audience.

There is also a new focus on local news. The aim is to improve the quality of news and insights from a local perspective in non-English speaking countries. In addition, the aim is to provide a better experience and understanding of local stories and topics. For example, this week there was coverage on the French election results, in French, on the eve of the first round of elections. The focus on local news also included an important segment on climate change and environment - this week's edition of the Digital News Initiative newsletter addressed this topic, as did last week's newsletter.

The second digital news initiative is focused on business news. Again this week's issue had local news, business stories and features, as well as global stories, on the front page. This week's feature story was on the European Central Bank, focusing on its decision to regulate its credit facility. There was also a feature article on the digital innovation initiative launched by the World Wide Web Foundation. The World Wide Web Foundation is an initiative of the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

agency was on Apple's new product, the iPod. There was a feature story on the product, a product launch, and an interview with the company's vice president, marketing, in which the company discussed strategies for selling the product. The article also covered details on the company's patent strategies. The fourth digital news item was a feature story on President Obama's stimulus package for the economy. That piece was published online ahead of its official release. Other online organizations that released a similar story include The Guardian, CNN, and Business Daily.

The fifth digital news item was on the European Central Bank's plan to allow some credit institutions more leeway in determining who qualifies for mortgage loans. This story also went online ahead of its release. The sixth, digital news item was on the release of the government's Fiscal Policy and the seventh was on the release of a report on combating the threat posed by terrorism. Other online organizations also published a number of articles. In addition to all of those items, there was a profile of Spain's new left-wing party, Podemos.

It is hard to say whether or not the digital news initiative was a success. However, it is clear that this new media initiative is attempting to make the print and television news more democratic, open, and competitive. It is also trying to appeal to people who are not regular readers of newspapers or magazines. Those are probably the people most interested in the digital news anyway, but it is nice to see newsrooms taking advantage of new technologies to appeal to those new readers.

There are still many unknowns regarding how well the digital news initiative will succeed or fail. Regardless, the first indications are very good. Many outlets are adapting to the format and the information presented is very clear and concise. It is still too early to tell if digital news will replace the print media altogether, but it appears that at least for now, it has succeeded in gaining a foothold. Perhaps we can look forward to even more radical changes in the future.
