Season Showdown is modeled after the regular college season. There is however a month delay between the game's release, and the actual start date for NCAA football in America. This is the Season Showdown, and you can earn additional credits for your school. Your school will be able reach the championship more easily if it has more credits.
Research the schools/programs of interest to you. Try to start step before your junior year in high school, if you can. This will make it easier to get through the process without feeling rushed.

I've seen many a talented player get his ass put on the bench because he can't figure out the plays. Or know left from right, or be able to figure out the signals. Don't be this guy.
Many of them claim to help you gain more exposure to college coaches, but I'd be wary of services that charge huge fees. They don't appeal to me enough to make me spend a lot of cash on a service like this.
