Spirit Airlines Hand's on Reviews: A blog on how to get the best out of your spirit airlines flight.
1. Intro

Spirit Airlines is an American low-cost airline headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The airline was founded as a regional airline serving South Florida in 1978 and is privately held by the Spirit family, who also own the Spirit car rental company. It operates flights to its main markets of Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City.
It was formed in 1978 as a regional carrier called South Florida Air Transport (SFAAT) with Douglas DC-8s and Gulfstreams for its routes from Miami to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. SFAAT operated flights on the route from 1978 to 1987, after which it was bought by United Airlines, though it kept using Douglas DC-8s.
In 1988 United started flying nonstop from Miami International Airport (MIA) to San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
In 1991 United merged with Continental Airlines to form Continental Airlines Corporation (CACO), which continued to operate under that name until 1999 when it was renamed Spirit Airlines due to its location within the Spirit media empire.
The initial routes were between MIA and SFO via Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) via a stop at Long Beach Airport (LGB), followed by flights on routes between Miami and Palm Beach International Airport (PBIA) via Atlanta–Hartsfield–Jackson International Airport (ATL).

United merged with US Airways Group to form United Continental Holdings Inc., which then purchased Spirit. In 2003 United merged with American Airlines Group Inc., resulting in a new company called United Continental Holdings LLC or UCH, although it retained its original name of United Continental Holdings Inc.
In October 2005 Spirit lost market share to US Airways in terms of daily departures from Miami and LGA; after this loss, the airline announced that it would no longer operate scheduled service on Tuesdays or Thursdays beginning November 1st because these days were not profitable for Spirit's business model. The carrier announced new "special" weekdays starting December 4th: Mondays through Saturdays starting October 30th, 2009; Tuesdays through Fridays starting November 1st; and Saturdays beginning December 2nd 2009. A year later on September 13, 2010 Spirit took over operation of LAX from American Eagle at LAX's Terminals 2/3 including all ground operations except baggage claims for all flights between Miami-Hartsfield/Jackson/ATL-LAX except those flown by BA 747-400cs or BA 757-200cs while American Eagle continues operations at LAX terminals 2/3

2. Spirit Airlines' Marketing Strategy

I’m a bit of a long-time customer of Spirit Airlines. For much of my life, I lived in the state of Florida, so it really was “my” airline. I traveled with my family frequently and paid no more than $100/day to fly on Spirit. (I mean, it’s not like it was expensive flying…but still…)
But when our family grew and we started to travel with more people, we had to change our airline. Soon after we announced that decision on Facebook, we got an outpouring of negative feedback – many promising to switch away from Spirit if their lives depended on it.
It drove us nuts. The bad news is: for the most part, adopters are loyal and continue to fly with Spirit. And the good news is: anyone can do this – and you can do it even if you have never flown before.
This article is intended for those who cannot afford to pay $200/week or $500/week or $1,000/week for an extended stay anywhere in the world (for us). You live where you want and wherever you want to go. You get what is important to you – your relationships with your friends and family – by having a place that allows you to be yourself without worrying about getting checked in or out at airports or hotels every day. When you need a connecting flight from one side of the country to another, fly on Spirit! The best thing about flying Spirit? It's free! That's right: It's free! The only way for me to pay for this website is through advertising sales or by selling my soul via donations (via Patreon). Please support me at patreon.com/spiritairlinesflights

3. Spirit Airlines' Business Strategy

Spirit Airlines (NASDAQ: SPIRG) is a low cost carrier providing non-stop service to major cities in the United States and Latin America. Spirit owns about 30% of all airline seats in the United States, and 20% of seats in Latin America, making it one of the largest airlines in several markets.
Spirit airline reservations offers non-stop service from major U.S. cities to many Caribbean islands, with flights departing every day except Sunday and Monday. It also provides connecting service to Puerto Rico, Mexico City and Chicago O’Hare International Airport via its subsidiary Spirit Airlines (USA) LLC, through its 70 flights daily between Miami and Orlando International Airport. With its in-house brand Spirit Airlines (USA), the company's subsidiary is also one of the largest low cost carriers in the United States.
The airline is headquartered at O'Hare International Airport near Chicago, Illinois. It also maintains an office at Miami International Airport.
Spirit Airlines operates an extensive network of smaller regional jets under a corporate policy that allows it to offer lower fares than competitors due to its significant ownership stake of most aircraft on a particular route; some aircraft are operated under different names owned by competing airlines.[6]
In order for them to become truly competitive with traditional airlines such as American Airlines (NYSE: AAL), Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) or Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV), Spirit must maintain high quality standards throughout its fleet while cutting costs somewhat in order to stay competitive with other airline companies.[7] Spirit has been criticized for paying too much attention to individual planes rather than buying more planes at higher prices, while allowing companies like Delta Air Lines which have significantly more aircraft available for sale.[8] In 2011, "BusinessWeek" ranked Spirit as number three on their list of ten worst airline stocks.[9] In 2012 "BusinessWeek" ranked Spirit as number four on their list of ten worst airline stocks again,[10] but by 2013 it was again ranked third on their list of ten worst airline stocks,[11] although this time listed as number six instead.[12]
In recent years several former pilots have been hired by Spirit as flight attendants because they felt they would be treated better there than other airlines' employees. However, after two incidents involving employees being overly aggressive towards passengers when onboard flights were cancelled because staff became ill or injured during holidays,[13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][

4. Conclusion

Welcome to my blog on Spirit Airlines. This blog is about how the airline does not offer any seats that are guaranteed by the airlines. This is an example of a "Personal Seat Selection Policy" which I am writing about.
This is a policy that Spirit Airlines has implemented to keep their customers happy and content, who are willing to pay for this service. It is a rule that I will be following as well and will not be violating it in any way.
Let me start by saying that I am not a Spirit Airlines employee or customer nor do I own a credit or debit card with the airline. Above all, I am simply sharing information that is available online and in forums such as this one.
I have chosen to post this information because Spirit Airlines does not offer any seats guaranteed by their company. For those of you who have flown with Spirit Airlines before, you know what I'm talking about when I say "guaranteed seat". The term guarantees the airline's promise to provide you a seat in front of you on your trip if they have any available seats, so if you are flying with them and experience any problems within the first few hours of boarding your flight, they will gladly give you another seat (as long as it isn't already occupied by someone else). You would think that due to their enormous size and financial resources, they would be able to find every possible seat on their planes, right? Well... No... They don't...
You see, when passengers book their flights through the internet or through phone reservations via traditional booking forms, they are not guaranteed seats because there may be seats available but because airfares are highly variable per flight type and route selected, there can sometimes be no guarantee at all (if there's even even one empty seat in between two flights!). That being said, most people are willing to pay for leisure travel so why wouldn't Spirit have every possible seat on their planes? That should make sense right? Well... No... It doesn't exactly!
Let me explain: The reason why airfares fluctuate so much from flight to flight depends on several factors including flight type such as direct flights versus international flights; local airports versus international ones; fare class (i.e., economy vs business class), etc.. By flying into one major airport or another (i.e., New York JFK versus San Francisco airport), fares change considerably more frequently than flying into smaller airports (i.e., Pittsburgh-to-Pitt
