Why do we need to manage our time?
Expected answers:
1-time is precious
2-time is money
When you start to think about time as money you will become always in a rush, greedy, less happy, less likely to help people, to volunteer, or to think about the environment for example
The Roman philosopher Seneca: If we think of time as money, we are valuing it very cheaply because we think we have a lot of it and we will live forever. we are all going to die. when u fully realize u are going to die, a 100$ an hour won't mean much
Some think that thinking about death is not cheerful...
The French philosopher Albert Camus: Aske the most fundamental question in philosophy: Why shouldn't I kill myself right now. Answering this question will remind you the true value of your time.
I don't have time is the biggest lie in mankind's history. (True for your grandparents they didn't have technologies, everything took hours to do) and the paradox is that they didn't complain about having any time we complain because we have more options.
We say we're not free because being free to use ur time as u please means u have to make choices and live up to the consequences of them.
It is scary because we are afraid of missing out or making the wrong choices... That's why we say we don't have time to have an excuse.
the conclusion is that we have time but we don't have a lot of it and we have a lot of options so we have to make sacrifices or make excuses (we can't have it all) but only sacrifices will allow you to live a meaningful life.
The way you manage your time has huge consequences for our world:
People say they didn't have time
1. So they don't vote
2. So they don't volunteer
3. So they don't read
4. So they don't relax or spend time with their families
