Wii Menu Item Previews a Phony "SYner!"
Nintendo has recently announced some of the games and accessories that will be available when the Wii comes out. In addition to the usual controller and sensor bar, there's a new addition: a slot wherein you can place a SD card to save photos and download them to your Wii. There have been some mysteries surrounding exactly what this SD card slot will do, and whether or not it is truly as powerful as it sounds.
game 90s seems, however, that this is more of a necessity than something that gamers will want to actually use. After all, the Wii already comes packaged with its own built-in SD card reader, and many expect that it will still be able to play SD cards right out of the box. As far as Nintendo is concerned, though, the inclusion of an SD card slot is meant only for SD Trans Creator and Browser, two of Wii's other applications that work exclusively on the console's Wi-Fi capability.
In any case, the option to download games and use the Wi-Fi connection will be all that Wii owners can hope for with the new SD card slot. However, the one thing that is still missing from the new Wii console is a memory card slot of some kind. There has been quite a bit of speculation regarding this matter, with one source close to the project claiming that a memory card slot will not be included in the final design of the game console.
Another mystery is that of the battery life. The official range dates for the Wii's release are currently slated for April of 2009, but Nintendo has not announced when the battery life will last. Unfortunately, with a range of more than 6 hours, gaming fans will still find that they can play on the Wii for more than 20 hours, making extended use a non-issue. However, one thing is for certain - Nintendo is definitely planning on offering more power than just about every other console in the market, which means additional battery life is a certain way of improving the console's popularity.

ps. In case you were wondering, Nintendo is obviously still planning on selling the Wii as a media centre. The console will not be able to play all of your essential CD and DVD movies, and it is doubtful that it will be able to play the vast number of games that are produced each year. If you want a more multimedia approach to your gaming, buying thewl2 is a better proposition. Still, it will be interesting to see how powerful the Wii actually is once the full version has been released.
