5. Controlling the Future of your Brand by understanding the Trends

The United Airlines brand is an American airline, and a division of the American International Group. It is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, and operates a network of flights to over 1,200 destinations in 40 countries. In 2012, United served over 29 million passengers.
In 2014, United earned $20 billion in revenue. United is currently ranked first by total revenue per passenger among major airlines at US$5.5 billion per year.
United’s origin story began on April 3, 1927 when brothers Herb and Jack Kumpel founded a line of general aviation aircraft named the Kumpel Brothers Flying Service (KBS), which later became United Air Lines (UAL). The company was established with a single Boeing Model 6 cabin-type aircraft named the Curtiss JN-4D Jimmy I. After the first flight from San Francisco to Chicago in 1933 using the original name of KBS, the company was rechristened as United Air Lines on May 16 of that year.
United eventually merged with https://www.unitedairofficial.com/ (EAL), Braniff Airways (BRAN), Pan American World Airways (PAAW) and Trans World Airlines (TWA) – on March 8, 2011 to form American Airlines Corporation. From its inception in 1927 until its merger with TWA on March 8, 2011, it was the world’s largest airline until 2010 when Lufthansa took that title away from Continental Airlines after 15 years as leader.
United is one of four major U.S.-based airline companies defined by their use of “united” branding or “united flight” titles: American Airlines; Delta Air Lines; Southwest Airlines; and JetBlue Airways Corporation or JetBlue Group (which also owns Island Air). All but Delta are members of alliance partner airlines such as SkyTeam or Star Alliance which share common data bases for routing information and reservation systems among themselves but not with foreign affiliates who do not use these systems nor accept them as true source for international flight information..
