Isabelle is a very atypical character in this world, and most of the other characters recognize that. By that I mean she wants to become a deacon (the special soldiers who fight the eldritch), even though only men do it. While she is a very smart and brave young girl, she's a little unhinged in that regard, she lost pretty much everyone close to her at a young age, and she has an extreme amount of resolve to achieve her goal, so she is by no means so ideal to look up towards. She's in a way almost irrational in her desire to kill all the eldritch. But she also has this hyper awareness to her, in that she knows all this and tries to remain humble to compensate. She's the type to put out a kind and considerate demeanour, but then ask herself, "Am I doing this out of the kindness of my heart, or only because I'll gain something from it?" She's physically the weakest out of all the deacons, plus she's somewhat emotionally dependent on others. While she declares that she wants to kill all the eldritch, there's a certain weakness in her voice, which makes it sound like she's bluffing. She's very aware of her own limitations and feels inadequate because of it.
