Notes - notes.io

1. Think of a time that you or a leader you know Challenged the Process.

We challenged the process during the Military Ball.

2. Describe what happened.

Due to the fact that we weren't getting base-access forms back from students in time, we were forced to find alternative methods of transportation for cadets. We challenged Granby's process for getting people on base, since their method wasn't working for us.

3. What are some of the actions a leader can take to create a climate for change and encourage risk-taking? Be specific.

Leaders should work to create and maintain an environment where subordinates are comfortable with bouncing their ideas off of them. Leaders shouldn't rule with an iron fist. Leaders should allow their followers to take the wheel every now and again to develop better practices.

4. What makes the challenge meaningful for those who push their own limits to get extraordinary things done, who risk their security to change the social condition or risk their lives to save others or defend liberty?

All challenges are meaningful, they offer insight and knowledge about a certain aspect and can allow someone to develop their ideas/strengths. They also show us where we can improve. When a person severely pushes their limits, risks security or their lives even, the satisfaction that they completed the challenge is extraordinary. They'll likely receive recognition for their work.

5. In general, what makes something new and innovative worthwhile doing?

The idea that this new innovative thing can pave the way for future developments.

5. In your own personal-best story what made the challenges meaningful?

When you can see how a person/place is benefiting from what you did - that's when the challenge becomes meaningful.

6. Why is learning from experience important?

Learning from a book or teacher is all well and good, but learning from your own experience is hands-down the best. Learning from your past experiences eliminates all uncertainty since you know what you did. Secondhand knowledge leaves some ambiguity, and can prevent you from making a discovery you would've otherwise made without worry.

7. Describe a time when you have learned from experimentation and even failure.

I'm learning new things everyday at work: on this screen with (what seems like 101) buttons, I'm constantly testing out things to see how I can become a more efficient worker. Recently, I discovered that if I press "2 @" on the screen, I can scan an item once and have it multiply by two, saving me a lot of time.

8. What did you learn that you might not have learned if you hadn’t had that experience?

Pressing the @ symbol causes an item to multiply.

9. What is resilience?

Being able to "walk-it-off", in a sense. Not shutting down after one hardship.

10. How can resilience be developed and promoted?

Resilience is built by being challenged, if everything is always a cakewalk, you'll never be able to respond to a challenge. It can be built by taking risks, observing and recovering from hardships.

11. What are common obstacles to Challenging the Process?

Challenges/roadblocks might make the challenge seem impossible, people aren't always welcome to change.

12. Which kinds of obstacles are valid and which can be overcome? Give examples.

I'd say all obstacles can be overcome with the right grit.

People not welcoming change? Let them know that change is inevitable, but you're confident you're going to lead them in the right direction.
Roadblocks? I heard this quote in a YouTube video once and it's always stuck with me: "F shouldn't stand for Fail, it should stand for Find Another Answer". That's the same solution here, find a way around the obstacle.
