8 Ways to Save Money on Spirit Airlines Flights : A blog around how to save money on airfare.
1. Intro

Spirit Airlines (also known as Spirit Airlines) is a discount airline based out of Chicago, Illinois.
Spirit operates under the name of Sofitel and Spirit by Marriott, as well as Spirit Airlines. The airline was founded in 1977.
In 2018, Spirit Airlines announced an agreement to acquire rival discount airline Frontier , which would create a new competitor in the discount travel market and help Spirit grow its brand image and customer base while Frontier would continue to operate as an independent company.
The cooperation between the airlines has generated considerable attention in media such as Forbes , the Wall Street Journal , USA Today , Bloomberg News , and other publications.

2. Pack Light to Save Money on Your Flight

The idea is simple: Like most airlines, Spirit has a "no carry-on" policy. However, on occasion, they allow it. If you are traveling light and prefer to pack only small items like diapers or other necessities, you can save a lot of money by flying with Spirit Airlines instead of full-sized carry-on luggage. For example, if your carry-on is too large for one bag, you can fly with a smaller bag (up to 40 pounds) in addition to the checked luggage that costs about $25 per day for each person (or about $100 for a family of four).
So how much does it cost? The basic no-carry-on policy starts at $99 for up to two bags ($99 for each additional bag). You can save 35%-40% just by flying with the airline instead of having to spend the extra $100+ on checked bags. Spirit Airlines book flight tickets online at SpiritAirline.com . For example, their best deal starts at $69 for one ticket and ends October 31st 6:00 pm EST 2017. Flight tickets include taxes and fees which are displayed on the screen during booking.

3. Don’t Check Your Luggage or Pay for Carry-On

Spirit Airlines is a low-cost airline based in San Francisco, California. It offers flights from cities in the U.S., Canada and Mexico to over 100 destinations in 5 countries worldwide. Spirit Airlines is owned by PrivatAir Holdings, LLC (NASDAQ: PRIVA) of California, and started as a spin-off from Republic Airways Holdings. It is owned by Republic Airways Holdings Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Republic Airways Corporation (NASDAQ: RAV),
In 2011, Spirit Airlines was named the "Best Airline" by readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine for the second year running. In 2013, Spirit Airline was ranked #2 among low cost carriers by Condé Nast Traveler Magazine. The airline has been recognized as one of the best value airlines on American Airlines Group's award winning Merrill Lynch Global Airline Resale Award Program since 2002.

4. Fly an Economy Class Airline to Save Even More Money

Spirit Airlines has announced a $6.6 billion merger with Frontier Airlines.
Spirit airline merged airline will be called Spirit Airlines, and its new headquarters is planned to be located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
At the time of the merger announcement on March 8, Spirit was by far the largest discount airline in the US. Frontier, which was founded in 2004 as a low-cost carrier (LCU), served about 143 markets from its headquarters in Houston, Texas. The two airlines have more overlapping routes than any other companies in the US. There are only three cities that Frontier serves that Spirit doesn’t serve: Denver, Minneapolis-St. Paul and Seattle-Tacoma–Tacoma International Airport. Spirit currently serves 1,700 destinations out of 1,800 destinations to which Frontier flies (including its hub at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport). Back in 2012 when Frontier announced their merger with Allegiant Air, they had more than four times as many routes served by their flights as did Spirit.

5. Conclusion

I believe Spirit Airlines is the rare case where a low-cost airline that’s actually more convenient to fly is not only popular, but insanely profitable. For a company with such an atrocious reputation, you have to be able to justify why you fly them. Though this blog is about a specific airline, I’m sure most of the lessons can be applied to any low-cost carrier.
First off, flying Spirit Airlines isn’t like flying with any other airline. Spirit is operated by Spirit Airlines Holdings, LLC., which has its headquarters in Kissimmee, FL and has two hubs: Orlando International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. So when you book your flight on Spirit Airlines, you are booking it through one of their two hubs (and there are two hubs in Orlando). In other words, when booking your flight on Spirit Airlines, don’t just use the code “Spirit” (the brand name), buy your ticket using the full name of the airline.
Second off, this blog is all about how cheap it is to fly from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). According to my calculations at FlyerTalk , these flights are actually about $100 cheaper than other airlines for a specific route (via FLL/ORL) than that flown by United/Continental/US Airways – even if those flights would normally cost $300 or more!
Third off, unlike United/Continental/US Airways flights which cost $240 per person for economy class and $320 for business class on a single leg between MCO and FLL – which would have been roughly 2K miles each way – I believe we can save up to 700 miles per passenger on these flights using one of these strategies:
(1) Buy packages at various times during busy times – such as during times when they are selling “buy one economy seat get one free” deals;
(2) Use “One Way Coach AAdvantage Miles”; or
(3) Buy One Way Coach AAdvantage Miles and change them into Round Trip Airline Miles. Please note that I am not going into detail here because this blog isn’t really about how much you save by flying with Spirit Airlines. Rather it is about how much cheaper it is to travel from Orlando via FLL/ORL than via MCO. These details will then
