Intro to the Next-Gen Evolution of Video Games
Due to the current economic crisis, there has been a retreat on home video game systems, as opposed to what was probably expected. Yet the video game industry has continued to prove that it has no peer in terms of profitability. This is due to the fact that it has found a way around the world economy. By going to South Korea, where game console sales are at an all-time high, they are able to gain market share in another market - the video game industry.

By integrating video games with very expensive motion-sensitive peripherals, known as Project� and Eye Toy, the company was able to create experiences that were bothrary and intuitively appropriate for the market requirements in South Korea. In order to promote the system and stimulate sales, certain marketing events were held in the small, mostly non-traditional gaming centers, which typically cater to the under-40 age range. In these centers, the customer was seen being serviced, patronized and groomed by the system's various features.

Korea is not an especially developed market, and the country's traditional leaders, the living room-based home computers, were not among the first generation to spring up. So it was a somewhat surprising move for a country with a very high broadband adoption rate to take such a jump into the online world. The timing of the launch was also quite exemplary, coming right after the Asian Economic Crisis, which had just hit the country and had the economy in a very bad state.
