What to Pack for a Long Spirit Airlines Flight: A blog about what to pack for a long flight on Spirit Airlines.
1. Intro


Spirit Airlines has been around since 2004, but it wasn’t until last year that the airline started to gain a bit of traction with customers.
Now it’s one of the most popular airlines in the United States, and one of the biggest, with almost 3 million passengers per week.
The airline was founded by Tom Ferguson, who had left his job as CEO at U.S. Airways to start a new business venture after he lost his confidence in that company’s leadership team. Since then, Spirit has grown from 0 to 3 million passengers per week on average, and has even seen its shares rise from $15 a share in 2006 to over $30 in 2016 (price remains stable for five years).
Spirit Airlines is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. It operates flights out of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Denver International Airport (DEN), and New York Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).



2. Spirit Carry-On Size & Fees


Spirit Airlines, an American low-cost airline, has announced that it will cancel all flights to and from the US beginning on April 1st 2015. The decision was due to a significant reduction in capacity of its fleet and the anticipated release of new regulations regarding taxes and fees.
So what should we do?
For now, find a flight that allows you to use your personal electronic devices (iPad, PC, iPhone) with WiFi access. For example, there are several flight deals on Kayak right now that allow you to book flights to San Francisco or New York City with Spirit Airlines. Now make sure you have a way to connect your laptop or phone to the WiFi network so that you can access the internet while on board.


3. Spirit Carry-On Restrictions


Spirit Airlines has a number of carry-on items you will want to make sure you do not pack on your flight. While it is possible to fit most large bags under the seat in front of you, Spirit does define a maximum size for each bag. The following list of items that are prohibited from being carried on flights:
1. A purse, briefcase or similar sized item.
2. Personal electronic devices with a battery greater than 6 hours. (Note: this includes tablets and other laptops players)
3. Spirit airline reservations that exceeds the first 3 inches of height above the floor (footboard).
4. Personal electronic devices (laptops, tablets, etc.) with batteries greater than 6 hours are also not allowed in any seat or cabin area of the aircraft..
5. Cargo canisters/pouches are also prohibited in any seat or cabin area and must be stowed under the seat in front of you, as instructed by your travel agent or airline representative prior to travel. 4. Spirit Checked Bag Fees


Spirit has long been known for their unique pricing structure, which is why you’ll find it hard to catch the airline at its lowest price. The airline has recently announced that they will be raising their checked baggage fee from $35 to $40 starting on May 1st 2017. This is a huge increase for some people, especially those flying business class.
But there’s a catch: no matter how much lower the fare may be, Spirit will actually be raising the price of their checked bag fees in order to remain competitive with other airlines. For example, Delta recently raised their checked bag fee from $39 to $44…
This means that if you have an Allegiant flight departing between May 1st and June 30th 2017 (which is currently flying their lowest priced ticket), you can expect your bag to cost you roughly $200 more than if you had booked a non-Spirit flight.
Spirit Airlines also charges a fee when you check your bags at the airport, this can range from $25-$50 depending on how far your bags are from the overhead bin and how much weight they carry.
As someone who flies a lot of Spirit flights, I feel like I should know what these fees are because most of my flights are with other airlines, but it seems like everyone with different or even no experience in this industry should be able to make educated decisions about their travel plans based on what kind of check-in fees they pay.


5. Spirit 20/20 Discount


Spirit Airlines is a budget airline that operates several flights from the US and Mexico to cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, and New York. For those of us who do not want to fly on Spirit in favor of one of the big airlines (in this case Delta or United) you can take advantage of their 20/20 Discount.
Here’s how it works: Every business day during the entire month (February through May), 20% off your flight purchase for two people or more.

If you don't have frequent flyer miles available, they may be able to help you book a seat on another airline on the same day if you are willing to pay full price for the ticket (normally $99).

Spirit Airlines is a low-cost carrier that flies from the United States to Asia in business-class aircraft.

Text: Spirit Airlines announced last week that it will cancel about 4,000 flights within five thousand miles of San Francisco after losing more than $800 million over the past two years due to severe losses stemming from the end of its relationship with major US carrier American Airlines (AAL).
