Tipping the Flight Attendants of United Airlines: Tips and tricks on how to make your flight attendants happy while flying.
1. Intro

United Airlines is the largest airline in the United States. In 1990, it was founded as Air Transport Services Corporation (ATSC), and became United Airlines in 1992. United Airlines started operating flights in 1978 when it purchased Air Virginia, a commuter airline serving Washington, D.C., and Baltimore–Washington International Airport known as "the Pentagon". In 1986, AT&T Corporation purchased the company and changed its name to AT&T World Airways.
The airline was spun off into a separate public corporation with American Airlines Group Inc. as its parent company. The name was changed to Continental Airlines and then to United Continental Holdings Inc. in 1993, after the merger of Continental and Piedmont Airlines with US Airways being finalized on December 8, 1992, at which point United Continental Holdings became United Continental Holdings Inc., which also became a subsidiary of AAL Corporation.[6]
United operated from its headquarters at North Dallas/Fair Park Airport (DCA) in Fort Worth, Texas;[7] before moving to Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, Texas;[8] and finally moving back to DFW International Airport (DFW), adding nonstop routes from Newark International and Washington National Airports to Chicago O'Hare International Airport[9] and Miami International Airport.[10] American Eagle acquired 70% of United's operating fleet on August 1, 2006,[11] but retained 30% ownership of the planes.[12]
In October 2007,[13] American Eagle announced that it would buy up 30 percent of the shares of AA holdings while keeping control over 40 percent; this acquisition would be completed by January 2008.[14][15][16][17][18][19]
After American Eagle completed its purchase, AAL began building new aircraft for American Eagle such that those aircraft could serve both AA holdings's routes between Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport located in Arlington County of Dallas-Fort Worth County Texas and Fort Lauderdale International Airport located in Broward County Florida through AA Holdings' own brand rather than through US Airways or Piedmont Airlines which served these routes previously.[20][21][22][23]
In October 2008,[24] AAL announced that it would be combining its two non-core airlines – ExpressJet and Virgin America – into one airline under a new brand called The Jet Set(tm).[25] The ExpressJet subsidiary would become Virgin America on December 28th 2009.[26][27][28][29], with all ExpressJet flights

2. The Perfect Payback

United Airlines has a reputation for being a company that provides excellent customer service. However, the truth is that United's employees are not compensated very well.
But what if you could make your flight more pleasant by tipping a flight attendant? It would be an easy way to make your flight experience even more enjoyable, and save you money in the process.
Airlines are always looking to cut costs, so they look to any and all ways they can do so. This means that they have to find ways of cutting costs wherever they can, and one of their favorite ways is by sacrificing customer service.
This is where tipping comes in; it's an easy way of making sure that no one gets left behind, and it's a great way to reward good service with something tangible instead of just giving a cheque to someone who did their job well.
The idea may sound counterintuitive at first, but ultimately it makes perfect sense: if you're going to give a big tip (say $200 on a $300 flight), why not reward the person who made your flight more enjoyable for doing so? In other words, if an airline employee does their job properly, then you don't have to tip them; it's their money anyways! But if they get things wrong — like letting you sit in coach instead of business class — then they deserve something extra for making things better than expected (and you'll be pleased with what they give).
So how do you tip on United Airlines? The best way is by using the Ticket Viewer App on your smartphone. Once you download it onto your device via the link below, simply open it up and tap on the Flight View button at the bottom right hand corner. This will take you directly into United Airlines’ website and show you all of its flights — including both domestic and international flights — along with their ticket prices. To use this app specifically on United Airlines flights, simply tap on the First Class view button at the bottom right hand corner until it shows up as a menu option. Tap on this option again once; at this point, just select whichever row/class(es) interests you most, hit 'Search', enter your seat number or departure city/flight number (if available) into the search field provided by United Airlines' website (including International flights), press 'Find Flight,' then hit 'Book Flight.' You can now see all of United Airlines' domestic aircrafts without having bothered to go through their website or

3. The Cathay Pacific Flight Attendant: An Example of Great Service

I had a rather unusual experience with the flight attendants of United Airlines' Economy Plus. United Airline Ticket Booking was flying from New York back home to Dubai a few years ago, and I decided to buy a couple of round-trip airline tickets and book them in advance. So out of the blue, I get an email from Cathay Pacific saying, "We have some very exciting news – you are going to leave Hong Kong today".
I thought that was just an amazing coincidence. But obviously it was not.
The group called "Carnival Japan" had hired all the flight attendants on their aircraft, so when we were about to board for our flight … uhm … I think it was a Boeing 777-300ER out of Japan.
Oh my God. The first thing the flight attendants did when they showed up at the gate was go into the loo and give themselves a massage with stinky towels and take off their uniforms and line up like rag dolls in front of us, face down on the tarmac. We were all stunned by this bit of ritualistic behavior – but as we were about to board for our flight … uhm … I think it was a Boeing 777-300ER out of Japan … uhm … The first thing they did when they showed up at the gate was go into the loo and give themselves a massage with stinky towels and take off their uniforms and line up like rag dolls in front of us, face down on the tarmac. We were all stunned by this bit of ritualistic behavior – but as we were about to board for our flight … um ... uh ... uh ... we hear this announcement over speakerphone: "Ladies and Gentleman: The aircraft has landed safely here."
What exactly is going on? Well you've probably heard that flights are inspected every year by the authorities at airports around the world, including Hong Kong International Airport. Well this isn't just internal flights; planes are inspected by Hong Kong International Airport other times too! In fact, these inspections are probably done every day all over China too! And if you've flown Cathay Pacific or any other airline over these past years or weeks, then you know that Hong Kong International Airport is one of only two airports in China that have direct access (DDA) to mainland China — while most airports do not have direct access (a lot don't even have DDA). So what's going on here? Is there an accident?
Well yes there is! But

4. Tipping a Flight Attendant May Become A Trend Among Frequent Flyers

In the past three years, Genter has tipped about a dozen flight attendants for a good tip (ranging from the not-so-good to the downright ridiculous) during his travels. He says that he usually doesn't have to tip on his own, but after hearing friends and colleagues complain that they don't receive enough tips on flights, he decided to start taking action.
Tipping flight attendants is becoming more of a trend among frequent travelers and consumers in general. According to Genter, there are a few reasons why tipping flight attendants is becoming more popular:

5. Conclusion

I was a flight attendant for United Airlines for four years (2011-2014), and did not tip a single flight attendant.
That’s because I studied the topic, found out the benefits of paying flight attendants well, and how I could optimize my own tipping experience, so that I could maximize the amount of money I could make per mile per passenger.
In this post, I’ll walk you through some tips and tricks on how to maximize your tips, as well as tricks on how to get better deals on airfares and airline tickets.
