CHAPTER TWO: The Snake Of Alvar Pinera


The lantern they carried lit up the whole place, it was filled with bugs and roots, I went over to the roots and tried to climb but they broke apart almost instantly, "It's not use, they're way too weak to climb," there was only one path so we took it, we walked into what seemed like a field of flowers.

All the younger kids rushed towards the flowers, they were all so happy, then I heard a scream, I turned to see where it came from, "LOOK! UP THERE!" We all turned to look at what seemed to be dead animals.

'So I was right...' "ALICIA! JEMIMA! RUN!" Emma saved two of the younger kids, the entrance was closed and we were surrounded, but I was calm, I started walking towards them, I could hear Angel yelling at me, "ROSA! YOU IDIOT, YOU'RE GONNA GET KILLED!"

I put out my arms, "Am I?" I was surrounded by roots, but not a single one of them was touching me, I was alive, there wasn't even a single scratch, Emma started speaking, "NO WAY! THIS IS THE SNAKE OF SOMETHING SOMETHING!"

"Say what?!" I smiled and chuckled slightly, "It uses touch, don't touch it, it won't hurt you," Emma pulled out a book, "Yeah! I remember seeing it in this book!"

"Are you talking about The Snake of Alvar Pinera?"

"THAT'S IT!" She read through the book, "It's talking about this tree! This book was really meant to be a guide for us!" They walked towards me, and put our their arms, "See? It's fine!"

"LISTEN UP! Right now, our plan is to climb this trunk up to the ceiling as initially planned, we have to make out way up there before the roots from the wall reach us! But I know we can do it, you all have tirelessly trained your climbing skills back at the house, right?" I looked back at Ava and Lewis and they reassuringly nodded at me.

"So we will escape. As long as we get to the top, you're saying that we'll all be able to escape from this place." Emma smiled at her, "Yup!"

"Then let's go everyone!" All the kids were cheering, I felt a tug on my sleeved and turned to see Evelyn, "Rosa... I'm scared..." I smiled at her, "Don't worry Eve, we'll be fine, I know we can make it!" That seemed to cheer her up, she nodded and we all started climbing.

We got to the top quickly, "Everybody! Help me!" We started helping Emma by pulling on the vines blocking our exit, soon they broke apart, and we were finally able to get out, and they used a short rope to get the others to climb, some of the older kids were up pulling on the rope, while the rest of us stayed down here and helped the kids climb.

I saw we were missing someone though, "HELP!" I easily recognized that voice, "EVE!" Angel ran past me and stopped before falling back down, "Stay here, I'm going-"

"No. I am." He glared at me, "You're too reckless and unreasonable! You're going to get killed-" I jumped in without a second thought, if I hadn't, the vines would have gotten to her and she would've died, "Come on, get on my back, hold on, I'm gonna climb up there, okay?"

She hummed in response and I climbed my way up, "Rosa! They're getting closer!" Emma reached out to grab my hand and I took hers, she pulled me up and I got out with Evelyn safe.

"You could've gotten yourself killed, are you alright?" A short girl with green hair ran over to where we were, "Yeah I'm... fine-"

"YOU SHOULD'VE LET ME GO! YOU ALMOST GOT KILLED!"

"YEAH? WELL YOU WERE TO BUSY INSULTING ME TO NOTICE WE ALMOST LOST A SISTER!" My eyes watered.

Emma placed a hand on my shoulder, "Calm down, you saved your sister, and now we're all safe, we should just focus on searching for water," the others agreed and we all got up and went right back to focusing on our journey.
