A Tourist Guide To The Colonial Zone, Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo is the oldest town within the New World and was developed by Christopher Columbus and his younger brother, Bartholomew Columbus, within 1496. The element on the community inhabited in the first 1500's is known as the Colonial Zone (Zona Colonial in Spanish). The Colonial Zone features of several firsts because of the New World. The first paved street, university, cathedral, castle, monastery, hospital, then fortress - to name just a few. With beautiful design and the rich history, the Colonial Zone is essential see while visiting Santo Domingo . The Colonial Zone has been categorized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.


In the Colonial Zone, together with the attractiveness of the historic structures, you are going to find: hotels, restaurants, cafes, museums, bars, shops, etc. The 2 most prominent avenues inside the Colonial Zone are Calle Las Damas (the block of the girls) and Calle Conde. Calle Las Damas was the street the females of higher society walked after church on their way to lunch. Calle Las Damas is an excellent block during the day, though it becomes a lot more incredible at night as the street lights turn the walls of the structures a beautiful orange hue. With each action you take on the first paved neighborhood of the New World, you take a trip back deeper on time until you think as though you are in the 1500's walking alongside Christopher Columbus himself.

Hotels


There are lots of hotels to select from and they provide a wide range of prices from economical to elegant. What's good about the affordable hotels in this place is they're clean and staffed with people which are friendly - with many speaking English. Remember that these are old buildings, and, while they are clean, most rooms are tiny and also have &quot;Old Building&quot; issues. Still, for the price, I think they offer a good experience in a great area. There are many of these hotels and with many offering various specials at different times, so it is difficult to recommend one specific hotel. The reason I like the hotels in this place would be that if you go out the door of your hotel, you don't need to fork out a taxi to help you move to an area to enjoy. You are already in the # 1 destination spot in Santo Domingo.


On the taller end, you can find many hotels to enjoy, however, I will talk about Hodelpa Nicolas De Ovando. This hotel has roomy guest rooms, a nice courtyard out directlyto enjoy the evenings, a tiny bar, good food for the breakfast buffet, and for dinner they have a wonderful menu, although best two elements of this particular resort are its history and its architecture. Nicolas de Ovando, a traveling companion of Christopher Columbus, was the 3rd governor of the Indies and this hotel used to be the home of his and goes back to 1502.
