Monteverde Vacation and Travel Planner

Costa Rica is one of my personal favorite destinations - there's really much organic beauty crammed in this little country of 19,600 square kilometers. From the humble capital town of San Jose, centrally located in the center of the country at aproximatelly 3.600 feet above sea level, everything is near at hand - the Caribbean and the Pacific Coast are substantially less than 90 minutes away, the rich lowland rainforests of the Caribbean slope are about 75 minutes away and the cloud forests and the volcanoes of the main highlands are under 1 hour away. For a person who could pay for just 7-8 times in Costa Rica, it's possible to explore a range of habitats plus life zones in an incredibly brief time period.


The following 8 day/7 night itinerary would be great for such a traveler:


One particular night in San Jose - if you show up during the day, you might have time for a quick highlights tour of the city and several shopping Two evenings within the Caribbean lowlands - an opportunity to examine the rich rainforests of Costa Rica. Nature hikes, white h2o rafting, birdwatching and so on.

Alternate: 2 nights in Tortuguero - well-established ecotourist location located on the Northern Caribbean Coast. Wet coastal forests, very lush and green. Drive/take motorboat from San Jose/return by atmosphere. Important nesting area for each Leatherback and green turtles.

Two nights at Bosque de Paz - personal nature reserve and also lodge at about 7,000 feet above sea level, Cloud forests and montane rainforests, Secluded and quiet. Ideal for hiking and the natural world studies

Alternate: 2 nights in Monteverde - popular ecotourist location and mountain resort straddling the continental divide. Misty cloud forests, very lush and purple with views of the Pacific Ocean. Somewhat business but there are many attractions in the region. Many lodges to select from. Great social scene.

Two nights La Fortuna - Popular resort region, and site of Arenal Volcano, almost all energetic volcano in Costa Rica If you can afford to be 3 5 days longer, I will add an extra night at Bosque de Paz as well as in San Jose as well as perhaps 2 3 evenings in Manuel Antonio, a favorite resort spot with rich exotic landscapes and superb shores on Costa Rica's Central Pacific Coast. Alternate - numerous resort areas put on the Nicoya Peninsula (Northern Costa Rica) - Ocotal, Playa Tamarindo, Playa Samara or even Nosara.
