CHAPTER FIVE: The Promise


We all asked stupid questions but the answers were helpful, we were on planet Earth, year 2046, apparently humans and demons made a promise, the world was split in half, the farms are a gift from humans to the demons. Demons can't hunt us but still need to eat us, so they made farms.

This was horrible, and yet so amazing at the same time, a world with no demons on the other side of this one, but the only problem, is that if we wanted to go there, we had to find a way, a way to survive here and then leave, "Ray..." Emma got up, "Yeah..."

"OH, YES! WE CAN DO IT!!" Sung-joo was just as surprised as I am, "Woah- let's not get ahead of ourselves, we each have our own families to protect, we can't give them false hope, we don't know how we're gonna make it to the human world!" Emma smiled, "But we can find out how! Now we know there is a human world, one with no demons!"

I smiled, 'maybe we can leave', "Thanks Sung-joo! I feel better now!"

"Is that so..? Well that's good then... it's already much too late, go sleep. Starting tomorrow, we'll teach you how to pass through the forest, at least. Under our guidance, you'll be sure to leave it safely." Emma smiled at him before we left, "Thank you so much! Have a good night!"

We walked through the dark cave, I felt a tug on my sleeve, "Emma, go ahead, we'll be there," at first she was hesitant as if she thought one of us would end up dead if she were to do as much as leave, but after hesitating for a while she responded with "Okay!" And with that she left.

"If this is another accusation about me being a traitor then I'm willing to save you the trouble. I'm not-"

"It's not that, I wanted to apologize, for the outburst back at the cave underground," I felt bad admitting that my first thought was, 'is this a trap?'

"It's just- we can't risk getting caught, I promised to protect my family, and I have to keep that promise," I smiled, "Don't worry about it, we all want to protect our families, especially since we know what would happen to us if we were caught, and I can't expect you to trust a random group of kids you just met, but, at least give us a chance, I'm sure we'll all get along."

"Yeah, okay," the silence was unbearable, "We should go to sleep-"

"Right,"

That morning, as soon as we woke up, we worked on getting through the forest, some of the others seemed tense, after the pursuers found me and Ray, who knows if they might find us again, "Be at ease, they won't find us down here, I myself built this path, by connecting tunnels left behind by dead vampire trees, It's a true maze, only I and Musica can find the exit."

"I'd be lost actually!" Alicia and Jemima pointed out something, "Oh look, water anemones!" They were the same plants we had used to get water.

We walked through the forest while discussing where we're gonna go, suddenly Gilda started scolding Emma about how she should care more about her health, I felt bad for her, then a bunch of kids started scolding Ray about how he shouldn't try to get himself killed.

I started laughing but my laughter soon faded as the kids mentioned me, "You too Rosa!" My eyes widened, "Huh?"

"We know you went with Ray!"

"Okay- well-"

"And you both tried to be the bait!"

"That wasn't-"

"Yeah? Let's ask Sung-joo then!" All the kids turned to the demon, "They're chances of survival were 0%." 'Even the demons are on their side?' Jemima suddenly hugged Ray, "I was so worried..." Evelyn came up to us, "Rosa... promise me... promise me you won't die..." her eyes watered.

"Hey now, I'm not planning on dying..." 'I can't believe I just got scolded by a bunch of kids, I feel like I'm surrounded by Angel's clones,' "You guys care about us, right? This time it's us who were worried."

"It's true! Don and Gilda were almost crying!" The kids were laughing at the statement, well- except Don, "If you need help- SAY IT! If you're in pain say it, don't try to do it alone... we're brave too, you know? We'll find a way through anything... if you're in danger think of your own safety first please... we're asking you, please take care of yourselves!"

"We're very happy that you're going so far for our sake, but... in the same way, you too are our precious family, you know? So, please..."

"I got it, thank you. Sorry everyone," we continued on with our journey through the forest, Emma came up beside me, "I know why Ray tried to trap the monster- but how and why did you almost get yourself killed?!"

"I wasn't trying to! I tried to find you guys, I strayed away from the group, then I saw the pursuers,"

"And the cut on your arm? Why did your clothes have bloodstains on them?" I thought she woke up before me, "How did-"

"The others told me," I sighed, "They asked about you guys, I knew they hadn't found you yet, so I made a plan to drive them away from the direction you were going in, I had to make it believable that I was the last one alive, so I used my own blood and made bloodstains on my clothes, I think they believed it..."

"So will they stop going after us?"

"You? Yes, me and Ray? Nope, they think you're all dead, but they say us alive, though after Sung-joo and Musica saved us, they might think that they killed us, hopefully."

"I'll take your word for it!"
