Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum


More commonly called the Ming Tombs - a sibling of those in Beijing; the pair form a UNESCO World Heritage site - this's the last catching your zzz's place belonging to the Hongwu Emperor, founder of the Ming Dynasty. Construction needed over twenty years of laboring by several 100,000 workers and 5,000 guards. The mausoleum is established inside a verdant park which makes for a nice break from in the city Nanjing's concrete expanse.

Sun Yat-sen was the first president on the Republic of China party; it ruled modern-day China through 1912 to 1949, until the party - by then known as the Kuomintang - was run out by the Communists as well as retreated to Taiwan.
