Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum


Much more commonly referred to as the Ming Tombs - a sibling of those found Beijing; the pair form a UNESCO World Heritage site - this is the final resting spot on the Hongwu Emperor, founding father of the Ming Dynasty. The mausoleum is set in place inside a verdant park which makes for an excellent break from down the streets Nanjing's concrete expanse.


Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum


Sun Yat-sen was the first president of the Republic of China party; it ruled modern-day China through 1912 to 1949, until the party - by then known as the Kuomintang - was run out by the Communists as well as retreated to Taiwan. Given that a rift continues to exist today between Mainland Taiwan and China, it is astonishing that Dr. Sun continues to be revered by not only those in Taiwan but also numerous within Mainland China.
