A Historical Journey To The Past Newbridge Village

Newbridge is really a small tourist village inside Central West of NSW that welcomes visitors and campers. It is a great tourist destination to visit with good food available at the Gladstone Hotel, look at the Art Gallery (Olde Bridge Gallery) , see the Craft Shop, or camp on the Showground. Take a ramble from the village featuring its interesting history and great scenery to explore. Newbridge is situated about 32 km from Bathurst leading to 29 km from Trunkey Creek The locality was first called Back Creek or Reedy Creek, but renamed Newbridge on April 15 1878 when an overhead road traffic bridge was built within the railway line.


Newbridge was founded as being a gold mining town, the Post Office opening on 1 February 1856. Newbridge village developed across the railway line and station which was internal 1876. Newbridge is a popular camping and fishing location with campsites available over the river. One of Australia's oldest and largest regional galleries presenting innovative exhibitions alongside an engaged and varied suite of public programs and events. If you would like to view a number of the displays from your Camera Group then visit Ye Olde Gallery in the corner of Trunkey and Caloola Street in Newbridge.


The Newbridge Winter Solstice is a day of medieval magic and music. It takes place in the pub (closed to the occasion) and on the Gladstone Green. The entertainment has contains magic shows, Viking fighting displays within the afternoon (from Iron Fest participants), food stalls, Morris Dancers, many market stalls, two bands (one within the afternoon and another for the night), horse display, street entertainment as well as other activities for that younger people. There will likely be drink which is available from the Gladstone Hotel (Strong Ale, Draft Guinness and also other merry-making fortifications at the same time!). There will probably be ample food to suit everyone (vegetarians included) from food stalls at the same time as the Pub. Most people will likely be put on Medieval Costume to include in the merriment.


The highlight of a special afternoon festivities is going to be the lighting and burning from the Wickerman on the large bonfire at 5pm. People are inspired to buy small Wickermen earlier, write their problems for the tag and later throw them about the fire to get them burnt away!
