A Historical Journey To The Past Newbridge Village

Newbridge can be a small tourist village inside the Central West of NSW that welcomes visitors and campers. It is often a great tourist destination to visit with good food sold at the Gladstone Hotel, look at the Art Gallery (Olde Bridge Gallery) , investigate Craft Shop, or camp on the Showground. Take a ramble through the village featuring its interesting history and great scenery to explore. Newbridge is located about 32 km from Bathurst and about 29 km from Trunkey Creek The locality was referred to as Back Creek or Reedy Creek, but renamed Newbridge on April 15 1878 when an overhead road traffic bridge was built in the railway line.


Newbridge was founded as being a gold mining town, the Post Office opening on 1 February 1856. this link developed round the railway line and station that has been built in 1876. Newbridge can be a popular camping and fishing location with campsites available along the river. A point of pride to the town, the community have kept the building beautifully maintained, and Newbridge has won several awards for just one of the best presented stations in the state.


One of Australia's oldest and largest regional galleries presenting innovative exhibitions alongside an engaged and varied suite of public programs and events. If you would like to determine some of the displays from the Camera Group then visit Ye Olde Gallery in the corner of Trunkey and Caloola Street in Newbridge.


The Newbridge Winter Solstice can be a day of medieval magic and music. It takes place all the time (closed to the occasion) and on the Gladstone Green. The entertainment has contains magic shows, Viking fighting displays inside afternoon (from Iron Fest participants), food stalls, Morris Dancers, many market stalls, two bands (one inside afternoon and another to the night), horse display, street entertainment as well as other activities to the younger people. There will be drink offered by the Gladstone Hotel (Strong Ale, Draft Guinness and also other merry-making fortifications at the same time!). There is going to be ample food to suit everyone (vegetarians included) from food stalls too as the Pub. Most people will probably be dressed up in Medieval Costume to add to the merriment.


The highlight of the afternoon festivities will be the lighting and burning from the Wickerman for the large bonfire at 5pm. People are inspired to buy small Wickermen earlier, write their problems about the tag and later on throw them for the fire to possess them burnt away!
