Smart glasses are more than just making you cool

Google recently purchased Zulily, and Focal, two tech-savvy companies. Both companies have created very interesting wearables and tech products that are perfect for what Google is trying to do in the mobile space. I will be discussing what these acquisitions means for Google and their future plans.

Zulily: Zulily is an on-demand social media marketing company. They've created very interesting augmented reality apps that take advantage of your Facebook or Twitter connections to give you the information you need right when you need it. This is a key feature of Google Glass. It allows you to connect with your friends and also interact with third party services like Google Maps, Yahoo! Answers.

Focal: Focal is an innovative tech company that develops image display technology. Smart Glasses are almost identical in appearance to Sony Ericsson’s own camera phone. Smart glasses don't come with a built-in camera. Instead, they use a front-facing, motion sensitive, image processing chip that makes smart glasses look just like real cameras. Focal has been working with Google on new solutions for augmented reality. They've already created an interactive television experience for Google's new TV advertising platform.

Zulily's eye tracking technology is very similar to Apple's in the new iPads and iPhones. This allows you to not just see what's around you, but also to control the interface from your eyes like you would with an iPad or iPhone. Focals can also be used with a normal camera to create panoramic images and videos. These are not suitable for people with poor eyesight. You won't be capable of using the technology properly or viewing the pictures and videos.

Image stabilization: One concept video seems like the company was trying to get its feet wet with the technology behind this new device. In the video they show a man trying to click with his finger on a virtual keyboard. The screen seems to move in sync with his finger and it appears that his fingers pop out of its keyboard. This tech has been shown on the iPhones and iPads, so it's likely that it will also work well with smart glasses. The image of a man with his finger outstretched is far more realistic to me than one with crossed eyes while trying to use this device. Whether it actually works remains to be seen.

Video recording: The concept video shows a woman filming her son with her smart glasses while using a digital camera. They now show another person using the same device to film a video. The glasses look like they are acting as a screen. The woman's hands serve as the camera lens. The problem is, of course, that a human being has to be specifically trained to use a camera with this tech, which means it isn't going to be quite as simple as shown in the video. The idea is exciting, however. Imagine being able to capture video with just your eyes.

Clear seeing: I'm sure many of you have seen video or photos of augmented reality glasses. These lenses are transparent to allow you to see what's in front of your eyes. Wearable Technology Although it might not be practical to wear these lenses all day, most people would prefer clear vision over having this tech in their eyes. These holographic options could become more of a concept rather than a reality. This smart glass has the clearest seeing possible and there isn't any other device.

There are also medical treatments that could be used. These devices are often used in rehabilitation facilities rather than for patients with vision problems. This is because these types of tech are less likely to help with eye injuries or chronic poor vision. There is a possibility that these glasses can be modified to provide aid for those who require it. Smart glasses are going to be more advanced and interesting in this field.
