Smart Glasses - More Than Just Making You Look Cool

Google recently acquired Zulily & Focal, which both have very tech-savvy employees. Both companies have created very interesting wearables and tech products that are perfect for what Google is trying to do in the mobile space. I will discuss the implications of these acquisitions and Google's future plans.

Zulily: Zulily provides on-demand social marketing services. Their augmented reality apps take advantage of your Twitter and Facebook connections to provide you with the information you require right when you need it. This is a key feature of Google Glass. It allows you to connect with your friends and also interact with third party services like Google Maps, Yahoo! Answers.

Focal: Focal, a tech company that creates powerful and complex image display technology. Smart Glasses looks almost identical to Sony Ericsson's own camera phone. Smart glasses don't come with a built-in camera. Instead, they use a front-facing, motion sensitive, image processing chip that makes smart glasses look just like real cameras. Focal is collaborating with Google to create new augmented-reality solutions. Best Reviews Tips Focal already designed an interactive television experience to be used on Google's TV advertising platform.

Zulily and Focal created an eye tracking technology similar to that used by Apple for their new iPhones. This allows you not only to see what's going around you but can also control the interface through your eyes in much the same way as a computer. To create video and panoramic images, focals can be used with regular cameras. These are not suitable for people with poor eyesight. You won't be capable of using the technology properly or viewing the pictures and videos.

Image stabilization A man clicks with his finger on the virtual keyboard in the video. As the screen appears to be out of sync with his finger, it seems like his fingers are popping out of the keyboard. This tech has already been demonstrated on the iPhone and iPad, so it seems likely that it will also work with smart glasses. I find the image of the man holding his finger outstretched much more convincing than that of someone with crossed eyes trying the device. Whether it actually works remains to be seen.

Video recording: We have seen the concept video where a woman films her child with a digital camera and her smart glasses. Now they've shown another person filming a video while using the same device. The glasses appear to be acting as screens, while the woman's hands act as the camera's lens. However, a human being must be specifically trained to use this camera. This means that it won't be as easy as the video shows. The idea is still exciting. Imagine being in a position to capture video using your eyes.

Clear seeing through: I'm certain you've seen images or videos of augmented realities glasses. These are simply lenses that are slightly transparent so that you can see things clearly when they're in front of you. These may not be practical for drivers, as most people prefer to see clearly than have tech like this in front of their faces. These holographic solutions might end up being more of concept than real products. This smart glass has the clearest seeing possible and there isn't any other device.

Medical treatments are another possible use. Right now, these are more often used in rehabilitation settings instead of for those with vision problems. These types of tech are less likely than others to treat eye injuries and chronic poor vision. There is a possibility that these glasses can be modified to provide aid for those who require it. This is an interesting area and smart glasses will only get better.
