There are different types of attic insulation. Each of them has its advantages and disadvantages.

The first type is fiberglass. It is the most common type and is pre-measured in rolls to fit between standard joists and studs. Fiberglass products, both readily available and relatively affordable, have been the primary choice for new gut construction and remodeling projects for decades, both for professionals and homeowners.




Another good point is that its installation is quite simple, and you can do it yourself.


But there is a severe health problem with this type. It can be very irritating if you are in direct contact with the skin and lungs.


Another type is spray foam. The first advantage of this type is that by being firmly attached to the solid structures of the building, the spray floor prevents air from returning inside and outside the building. When hot air enters through a heated building to contact the cooling air inside its condensate, this moisture causes mold and mildew to form. However, because the spray foam completely seals all cracks and crevices, it prevents this heat transfer, leading to condensation, which causes mold and mildew. But the spray foam is not very thick and shrinks with age and stays away from the frame. You can get spray cans, but you may buy a pressurized sprayer if you need a large amount.


The third type is cellulose. This is made of organic, recycled paper and cardboard. So it is not an exaggeration to say that this one is environmentally friendly.


About its disadvantages, we can say although it is resistant to moisture and pests, when absorbing moisture, its ability to insulate is significantly reduced. As a result, cellulose insulation must be replaced every five years.


Cellulose type is installed by blowing in place or pouring it in the desired place. This type makes it easier to fill in areas with weird shapes.


The last one is Rock wool insulation. Rock wool installation is able to withstand very high temperatures as well as noise. In addition to having fire resistance properties, rock wool pastes are usually – and sometimes primarily – made from recycled materials. So we can say that this one is also environmentally friendly.


But there are two significant disadvantages. First of all, Rock wool insulation is so expensive compared to other ones. Then, this is not as common as the other ones and may not be found easily. About its installation, it is installed as a sheet to the walls.
