Game Series: Sakharmay Vs The World

The stakes have been raised for the debut of Sougatnam Sakharmay, a cricket world cup team. The last world cup team to join the tournament was Canada in 1998; they made it just one year and one day. Sakharmay are looking for a record breaking feat and have recruited some big guns including opener Sangita Powarachchiwa and wicket keeper Sanath khan.


Sangita Powarachchiwa is a batsman who has played for Kenya regularly and is their leading run scorer. The Twenty20 player has four centuries at the crease and a hundred and twenty-eight runs at an average of over fifty. She has not started the season well and could do with a bit more experience at the top level. Like many other debutants she has not done well at the county level. However she has picked up some valuable bowling skills and has impressed with her batting. This is an area where Sakharmay need to improve a lot.


Sanath khan is another debutant from Sakharmay who is very talented with the bat and bowler. He averages about thirty runs at an average of twenty-one. Though he has bowled only once for the tourists, he should improve as he has never started a match at a lower level. His bowling average is 3.30 but that should increase with consistent bowling work.

The other debutant from the bowling department is Lasith Nair. Another debutant from Sakharmay is Zahel Bokhandir who is an all rounder. Though he bowled only twice for the tourists so far, he impressed with his control and action on the field. His style of playing is quite similar to Sanath khan in that he likes to mix the different styles of bowling with great results. However he needs to work on his accuracy and control to make it better.


All these bowlers have at least one big hit that clinched the match for them. There are some other bright stars like Kamal Amrohi, Sudhanshu Sutar and spokesman Suraj Bhasa who have come handy in important matches. They have combined for some huge totals too. They have all been classed as all rounders with decent techniques. However they need to improve more on their bowling techniques as the ball has not fallen much for them.


Sakharmay are also well aware of their weakness and that is lack of speed and timing. So they have been working on this all season. They have introduced a number of bowling sessions for the starters, where they throw the ball fast to each other. This has been known to improve their confidence a lot. The other improvement they have made this season is in their overall fitness levels.

Sakharmay have impressed many other bowlers with their winning ratio and their ability to win consistently.
