Rune Kuno adalah studi mengenai huruf-huruf atau simbol-simbol rune yang digunakan di eropa barat. Rune sendiri adalah alfabet Jerman kuno yang bagi beberapa orang mirip tulisan paku.
Selain untuk menulis, rune jg digunakan dalam sihir dan ramalan. Ada banyak variasi alphabet rune atau lebih dikenal dengan Futhark.
Ada 3 alfabet rune:
> Pertama, Elder Futhark atau Old Germanic Rune.
Dia punya 24 rune. Dan Elder Futhark adalah rune tertua
> Kedua, Younger Futhark.
Futhark ini hanya punya sedikit rune(16 rune didalamnya) dan umumnya digunakan di Skandinavia.
> Ketiga, Anglo Saxon Futhorc.
Rune ini adalah pengembangan dari alfabet rune sebelumnya.
