Getting Vines Where You Need Them

Vines can be utilized with your landscape to generate many different effects. Vines are great for covering structural walls, boulders, stone walls, etc. In many areas the ivies are used a lot more than other vines. The quickest growing ivy is Boston Ivy. Another good vine for walls is Japanese Bittersweet. It is definitely an evergreen and grows well on the north side of buildings. It also does well in exposed locations.

Large and small-leaved kinds of Winter-creeper are hardy vines that can be utilized for wall planting. Other vines that cling without help to concrete, stone and brick include English ivy, Lowe ivy, Chinese trumpet-creeper and Virginia creeper (also called woodbine or American ivy).
