New method of growing sandal trees may increase output.

The cultivation of sandalwood trees may assist Indian investigators by understanding the nutrition of sandalwood trees from other plants.

Sandalwood is a plant parasitary to other plants that derives its nutritional requirements. It has changed roots termed haustoria, which penetrate and nutrient host plants. Scientists at Kerala Agricultural University in Thrissur, the College of Forestry and the College of Horticulture, have learned how sandy trees drain nutritious nourishment from their host plants.

The research showed that a sandal tree may link up to three metres with its host plants. Not only that, a single tree may create a network with many hosts including the grass surrounding it. However, this process of nutrient consumption is not one-sided. Sandal trees partially fulfil their hosts' nutritional requirements, according to the research published in the Current Science magazine.

"Till date, there have been just a few investigations on the connection between host and growing sandal trees. As knowledge of haustoria architecture and functionality in field sandal provides vital insights into how sandal obtains food materials from hosts, we conduct investigations to understand the physiological condition of haustoria," Dr A V Santhoshkumar, principal researcher, said.

farm lands in vizag and host plants are now cultivated side by side in the same pit. The new results would allow farmers to experiment with novel crop patterns, such as agroforestry, to maximise their value from a given land area.

In recent years, sandalwood output has declined as demand has increased. In the 1950's, production decreased from 4,000 tonnes to 500 tonnes a year, largely as a result of uncontrolled tree falls. The federal and state governments have made efforts to pull farmers into the cultivation of sandalwood trees, but large-scale plants have not recovered since trees are not properly planted.

'Sandalwood played an essential part as Sumbanese in our traditional life,' he added. 'This makes us accountable again for growing sandalwood trees. Don't believe you will have trouble planting sandalwood. It has great value in international markets and certainly contributes to improving our lives.

Sandalwood is a class of trees in the Santalum genus. The woods are heavy, golden and fine-grained, which keeps their fragrances for decades, unlike many other aromas. Indeed, 20 years or more before oil extraction, the precious woods were stored. The sandalwood oil, along with the wood itself, has a unique smell that has been treasured for hundreds of years and has led to the over-harvest of these slow-growing trees.

This was the situation in Sumba, when the Netherlands, the previous colonial leaders of Indonesia, became aware in the 18th century of the importance of their sandalwood trees. In 1756, the Dutch East Indies Company made a deal to remove a lot of sandalwood trees from the island and create huge dry grasslands [2] that were further extended throughout the 2000s, when most of the remaining woods were destroyed.

On March 6–7, 2017, as part of a programme to restore the sandalwood trees in eastern Suma under the Indonesia Rural Economic Development project, Ndohang assisted the training of farmers from neighbouring villages, with the support of the Australian Government via the Aus Agroforestry Centre, World Vision Indonesia, and Lutheran World Relief.

He taught the audience how to make high-grade sandalwood seedlings using host trees and how to determine whether or not a seed is good. During investment plots with sandal wood plants near visakhapatnam , farmers asked several questions and practised the following exhibits: selecting seeds; sowing seedlings, which the sandalwood links to via the roots; selecting seedlings from seedlings already germinated; mixing soil and fertilisers, adding them to containers; and transplantation of already-germinated seeds.

Rimba Bintoro, a LaIwangi Wanggameti National Park sandalwood researcher, then described some of the more theoretical aspects of sandalwood propagation, including how best to space between trees, how to produce planting troughs and artificial shade shelters, how to manage trees to produce high-quality wood, and how to harvest them for cultural ceremonial without damaging the trees.

'It was a little surprising to witness the participants' excitement,' he added. 'They were very inquisitive and asked some excellent questions. I am confident that there will be more farmers planting sandalwood trees following this instruction.

"I'm a farmer and really pleased that I was part of this training since it was incredibly helpful," Njahu remarked. 'I did not know how to produce sandalwood correctly, but I learnt everything from the selection of excellent seeds to marketing via my training. sandalwood farmland plots for sale near visakhapatnam may hopefully be conducted more frequently for different tree species to enable us to learn how to plant more trees and see Sumba once again wooded. '

Near the mixed plantation of sandalwood, teak, mahogany and gmelina belonging to Mehang Prostigmata, in the village of Mondu, about an hour from Kanatang, the training ended. The learners could witness the benefits of planting sandalwood for themselves. Most of the trees in Potinggata came from the rest of the woods and were either entirely taken to the farm or grown from cuttings or seeds. It crosses the trees with yams that are typically consumed in times of hunger, which is not unusual in the dry and mountainous eastern Sumba.

After the training, farmers are assisted to apply what they learned. Updates on new information are provided and they are frequently brought together to enhance each other's know-how and abilities.
