GlyphosateFarmers use glyphosate to ensure sustainable farming to ensure our food supply over the long-term.
It's not hard to see that the world is experiencing an an increase in population. In 2050, we're predicted to have reached 9.7 billion people worldwide--over two billion more than today.1 Unfortunately, the amount of land available for agriculture isn't growing with the population. This creates serious problems for farmers, who need to produce enough food products of top quality to feed Canadians as well as other people around the world.

Canada is currently fifth in global food exports.2 Canadian farmers will play crucial roles in providing the food that the world requires. They'll have to meet the growing demand as well as manage the spread of diseases and pests in addition to weather fluctuations, and make sure their land remains fit for the future.

By 2050, farmers will need to increase their production by 70% to provide food to meet the demand of the increasing population. *Source: How to feed the world by 2050 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

Farmers aren't able to satisfy this demand on their own. Modern technology, including herbicides and glyphosate, are able to aid farmers in controlling weeds efficiently and effectively. This results in an improved sustainability and stability of food supply.

What exactly is glyphosate?

Glyphosate is an effective herbicide that is non-selective and has been used by gardeners, land managers farmers, gardeners and others all over the world for over 40+ years. It works by inhibiting the enzyme activity that the plants (in this example, unwanted weeds) require to develop. The enzymes do not exist in humans, or in other animals.4 So, glyphosate poses zero risk to any species if it is applied correctly.

Glyphosate is also used in different applications other in addition to agriculture. グリホサート 苔 is utilized in municipal areas to protect wildlife and the general public from toxic weeds.6 Furthermore, it's used to stop fires and maintain visibility on railway tracks.

Recently, there's been increased attention to the use of glyphosate in our everyday life. While it is important to think about what is in our food and drink, it is important to note that more 160 health regulatory authorities including Health Canada have agreed that glyphosate when used correctly, is safe for human consumption.

Canadians will be better able to comprehend what glyphosate does and how it operates and why it's vital to the production of food.

Glyphosate: Why it is employed in agriculture?

The use of herbicides based on glyphosate benefits consumers, farmers and the natural environment. It is essential to efficient controlling weeds, secure food supply, environmental sustainability and sustainable weed control. Let's explore each of these advantages in greater depth.

According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization Global farmers can lose anywhere between 30-40% and 50 percent of their crops due to weeds, pests and disease. This is a massive cost for farmers, especially when they consider the crops they grow as their main source of income.

So, グリホサート 苔 's no wonder farmers have come to rely on tools they can rely on, year after year. Applying glyphosate to the fields is an effective method of keeping harmful plants free of weeds, especially glyphosate-tolerant crops.

Crops against. weevils - the struggle for their existence

The crops of a farmer must compete with up to 30,000 kinds of weeds to get space, water, nutrients and light.9 Glyphosate can give crops an opportunity to fight.

Canadians and global consumers benefit from the abundance of, affordable food items

The population is growing and half of the land that is used for food production in Canada is in danger of being unusable within 40 years.10 This could lead to more food shortages. Canadians will pay less than 55% for food if there are no modern farming innovations such as the use or glyphosate.11

Not only that, the foods we love eating would be more difficult to obtain. But, thanks to science-based agriculture farmers will soon be able to grow more of our most-loved staple foods over the years.

Glyphosate doesn't just help manage weeds and ensure that you can afford produce at the grocery store, though. It also assists farmers in taking care of the land that Cherilyn Jolly-Nagle farmer in Mossbank, Saskatchewan calls "their most important asset"--their property.

Keep グリホサート エース love on our table

Farmers can flourish by using crop protection tools, such as glyphosate to protect crops from pests and disease.

42% More grains, like corn or wheat

72 percent more fruit

83% more veggies & potatoes12

The benefits of glyphosate's use are clear. But is glyphosate safe to use?

It is important to remember that all pesticides should be used according to instructions on the label. In Canada Glyphosate usage is regulated by both the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), which inspects crops for residues from pesticides, ensuring the use of the pesticide is done correctly and also the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) that provides the guidelines for regulation for product submission evaluations, as well as approvals (or rejections)--and is one of the most intensive evaluation procedures throughout the world.14

Regulators ensure that farmers utilize approved herbicides in a safe and responsible way. However, it is up to farmers and manufacturers to ensure that there are no unintended consequences for the environment, animals, and humans.

Because of technological advancements and the use of precision farming, farmers can use data to be more precise when applying glyphosate to certain zones.

It is extremely rare that glyphosate is found in food. CFIA makes sure that farmers use herbicides correctly and follow the established limits for residue16. グリホサート is not common and doesn't cause harm for human or animal health17.

Glyphosate is a component of sustainable agriculture practices

Farmers utilize herbicides like Glyphosate as part of integrated pest/weed control practices. That is, they use more than just herbicides to control the weeds. Glyphosate has enabled them to implement conservation tillage/no-till methods that offer long-term benefits for the soil, air and our environment as a whole and include:

To decrease or stop plowing or tilling of land

- Cut CO2 emissions

Capturing carbon soil

- Improving soils ' health

- Reducing the amount of water runoff and limiting erosion13

"No pesticide regulatory authority in the world currently considers glyphosate to be an individual risk for cancer at the levels at that humans are exposed." -- Health Canada (January 11, 2019)

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations How to provide for the planet's needs in 2050

It is now more important than ever before for Canadian farmers to have the tools, technologies and assistance needed to meet growing food supply needs.

グリホサート can be expected to continue to preserve our food's safety and abundance by following safe food and agricultural safety and insect management practices. Glyphosate is only one tool they'll use to ensure Canadians are able to access affordable, nutritious food for the coming years.
