Retrieve free goggles and paper towels
Retrieve bag full of dirt/mixture
Buy magnet,hotplate,sifter,flask(3),funnel and filter paper
Pour bag of mixture out into sifter and shake until small objects fall over beaker like dirt and big objects like gravel are separated
Physically separate wood shavings from gravel by putting water in it
Once gravel and wood shavings are separated have rest of material on tray
With bag over magnet, run magnet 1-2 cm over the mixture on the tray. You will then have the iron shavings on the bag with the magnet.
Place what is left on tray in a beaker of 100 ml of water. Wait for the salt to dissolve.
Pour the solution over a filter through a funnel into another beaker, to separate the sand out of the salt water.
Heat up hot plate, boil water to recrystallize the salt.
Clean up.
