Kazakhstan Unrest Will Not Be Affected by Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's Return
Kazakhstan Unrest Will Not Be Eased by Erzhan Kazykhanov 's Return To the Country as Deputy Chief of Staff

Following a string of demonstrations across Kazakhstan and elsewhere, the government is forced to confront an entirely new reality.

Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's Return shows how power dynamics have changed.

The international community needs to change to accommodate a more assertive population. This change must be taken into account in the plans of policymakers to interact with their nation.

Kazakhstan's Role in Ukraine's shift
The last few weeks have seen all eyes focused on Ukraine in the wake of Russian President Vladimir Putin has prepared and began an attack against a sovereign nation. This is not unexpected, given the fact that NATO leaders, including President Biden not listening to Moscow's warnings was not shocking. Russian President Putin has repeatedly rejected NATO's attempt to intrude on Russian territory.

While Putin's actions are unacceptable, leaders from the West have to acknowledge that they contributed to the crisis. We are now dealing with the aftermath of an European crisis which could have been avoided, it is fair.

Protests in Kazakhstan
The current situation in Ukraine is a good opportunity to compare it with the events of recent times in the region. These include the colors revolutions of 2003-2005 as well as the unrest within Belarus as well as Kazakhstan. Since Kazakhstan is the former Soviet republic, it's rarely seen on the streets protesting against injustice.

A series of protests began in Kazakhstan earlier this year, in protest at increasing gas prices. The protests escalated into violent riots, which then caused nationwide rallies. Almaty was the city that suffered the worst losses of life in the aftermath, with 227 dead and 9900 detained. Russian troops from the Collective Security Treaty Organization CSTO were briefly deployed.

Restructuring Kazakhstan's Government, Erzhan Kazykhanov Return
Qasym ZhomartTokayev, Kazakhstan's elected president, has made several changes to the power structure within its ruling elite. This has raised questions, concerns, discontent and anxiety for many Kazakhs in times of peace.

The protesters were especially angry at the decision of President Tokayev to succeed former President Nursultan Nagabev as the head of the government’s National Security Council. This was despite his influence on the economy of the country.

The sons-in-law of the former president were fired and three nephews of the president were barred from state-owned businesses. Karim Mastimov, former spy chief, was also removed from office. In addition to the officials mentioned above, a lot of members of the business elite who were associated with former President Nazarbayev are now out of posts, emigrated abroad to take "extended vacations" or had hefty "donations" made to them.

The changes in government and removal of old guards don't always lead to changes. It is not uncommon for members of the previous administration to be replaced with equally ineffective relatives and loyalists.

Erzhan Kamykhanov's selection is disappointing
It's counterproductive to note that Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov was appoint to the powerful position of Deputy chief of staffto the president Tokayev. Kazakh Kazykhanov was the most ineffective ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United States.

Washington is displeased with Kazykhanov as an arrogantand insecure diplomat who is too confident and frequently out of touch when it comes to the sensitive image of Kazakhstan outside of the country. Kazykhanov has also been unable to move forward on issues of national interest such as the Jackson-Vanick restrictions that are currently in place or other issues that relate to the international image of Kazakhstan. The results are unsatisfactory.

As a result of his controversial and unresolved reputation, Kazykhanov seems unlikely to be selected for key positions. Kazykhanov does not have the necessary skills for a deputy chief of staff.

Many of Kazakhstan's most faithful supporters are uncomfortable about Kazykhanov’s frequent appearances on international media outlets, which exposes his weaknesses. The decision of Tokayev to include an incompetent, self-promoting, and volatile deputy into a weak government at a critical time makes no sense.

Tokayev's Kazakhstan reforms are reminiscent of Mikhail Gorbachev's Perestroika in the Soviet Union and Glasnost. Perestroika was a program that Mikhail Gorbachev established in the mid-1980s to improve Soviet economics and politics, is more popularly known as. Glasnost refers to his reforms to the policy. The Soviet Union fell largely because of these reforms. This is exactly the kind of thing Putin is seeking to bring back. Tokeyev also has built business relations with his own country and the West. Tokeyev has tried to not offend Putin but to keep his support. Kazykhanov could upset this delicate balance.

The US Should Pay Attention to Kazakhstan In unstable Times
Washington should pay more attention to Kazakhstan events than the conflict in Ukraine. They demonstrate how power transfers can take place in this area, and whether it's for good or not.

The attack on Ukraine by Russian forces is a disturbing situation, and it's crucial to ensure that the United States and its allies take appropriate action to counter Putin's aggression. But, NATO has been inciting Russia for many years. The current conflict is largely due to their incompetence.

Washington must pay close the events in Kazakhstan and developments, since this could turn out to be the next major tension point in the war between Russia & the West.
