Kazakhstan Unrest will not be eased by Erzhan Kazykhanov 's return to the Country as Deputy Head of Staff
After a series of demonstrations across Kazakhstan, the government must accept the new realities.
Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's Return shows the power dynamics that have changed.
The international community has to evolve to accommodate a more assertive citizenry. Furthermore, the policymakers have to be aware of these changes in order to figure out effective methods to interact with the people of the world.
The role of Ukraine in Kazakhstan's Shift
The past few weeks have seen everyone's eyes focused on Ukraine as Russian President Vladimir Putin has prepared and launched an invasion against a sovereign state. This shouldn't be unexpected, given the fact that NATO leaders included the president Biden ignoring Moscow's warnings, was not a surprise. Russian President Putin has repeatedly condemned NATO's plan to invade Russian territory.
While Putin's actions are unjust western leaders must admit the fact that their actions have contributed to the current crisis. Now we have to deal in the aftermath of a European crisis that could have have easily have been avoided.
Protests In Kazakhstan
One comparison between Ukraine's current situation and those of the past is to be considered. Here are the unrest in Belarus and, in particular Kazakhstan, from 2003 to 2005. As the former Soviet nation located in central Asia Kazakhstan is not often a part of street protests that openly express their discontent.
Protests started in Kazakhstan at the beginning of the year due to rising gas prices and worsening unemployment conditions. These protests grew into massive demonstrations, which culminated in violent protests. Almaty had the most tragic losses of life: 227 people were killed, and more than 9900 people were detained. Russian soldiers from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), were briefly deployed.
Restructure Kazakhstan Government's Government and Erzhan Kazykhanov .
Qasym Zhomart the president of Kazakhstan, has brought about several changes to the power structure of the ruling elite that have caused concern about the status quo, apprehensions, and discontent in the majority of Kazakhs.
Protesters are particularly upset by President Tokayev’s plan to assume the headship of the government’s National Security Council. He replaces former President Nursultan Nagayev, whose impact on the country’s economy was a major concern for them.
The events resulted in three former president's sons-in laws being removed from state companies. His nephew was dismissed. Karim Masimov (the former spy chief) was detained on suspicion of Treason. Many business leaders associated with the former president Nazarbayev also lost their jobs, fled abroad to take "extended vacations" or were subjected to massive "donations."
Change in government and the removal of the old guard does not always lead to change. It's not uncommon for former members of the staff of an administration to be replaced by similar inept relatives and loyalists.
Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's Apppointment Is A Disappointment
Erzhan Kasykhanov's nomination as President Tokayev’s highly influential position as Deputy Chief Staff was counter productive. Kazakhstan's ambassador to the United States was Kazakh Kazykhanov.
In Washington, Kazykhanov was a solitary, arrogant diplomat, self-confident, and sometimes out of touch with the delicate character of Kazakhstan's image abroad. He also failed in his efforts to improve on important national issues, including the Jackson-Vanick restriction and other issues that affect Kazakhstan's image around the world.
Kazykhanov is not a likely candidate for positions of vital significance due to his shady and unbecoming reputation. Kazykhanov isn't a skilled professional in diplomacy, broad expertise or experience as a Deputy Chiefs of Staff.
Many of Kazakhstan's most enthusiastic supporters were apprehensive about Kazykhanov's frequent appearances on international news channels. The media exposed his flaws. Tokayev's decision in such a critical moment to bring in an incompetent, self-promoting deputy into a fragile, unstable government makes no sense.
Tokayev’s Kazakhstan reforms are reminiscent of Mikhail Gorbachev's Perestroika during the Soviet Union and Glasnost. Perestroika is Mikhail Gorbachev’s mid-1980s reform program to improve Soviet economics and politics. Glasnost refers specifically to the policy changes he made. These reforms led to the fall of the Soviet Union. Putin is trying for a rebirth. Tokeyev has also established trade relations with countries that surround his own and with the West as well, and has taken care not to offend Putin, but rather to remain steadfast in his support. The delicate balance of his life could be shattered by Kazykhanov.
Although Unsteady Times Abound, the USA should pay particular attention to Kazakhstan
Washington should be paying close attention to events in Kazakhstan during the conflict in Ukraine. These events are an example of the ways in which a power shift can take place in this area of the world, regardless of whether positive or worse.
This is a troubling development. It is essential that the United States, along with its allies, take the necessary steps to stop Putin's aggression. However, we cannot forget that NATO has been provoking Russia for many years, and this crisis is in part a result of their own incompetence.
Washington must pay close attention to Kazakhstani events. This may be the next flashpoint of the war between Russia, the West and Russia.
