This year, two prominent Pakistani drama shows will air in Saudi Arabia.
Pakistan Television has chosen two television shows for transmission in the Kingdom: Dhoop Kinare and Tanhaiyaan.
This is the first time Pakistani drama shows have been subtitled in Arabic for Saudi audiences.
ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, Pakistan's official television announced that a Pakistani soap opera with Arabic subtitles would air in Saudi Arabia in June, one of two television series to be shown in the Muslim Kingdom.
During مسلسل الاختيار الجزء الثالث to the Saudi capital of Riyadh last week, Pakistan's information minister, Fawad Chaudhry, claimed that Islamabad will soon export its television series to the Kingdom.
The decision is part of a three-year effort by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to modernise the very conservative Kingdom, where theatres, public concerts, and other kinds of entertainment have been prohibited for decades.
"We have chosen two highly popular programmes for Arabic subtitles, Dhoop Kinare (Sunlight's Edge) and Tanhaiyaan (Loneliness)," Shahzia Sikander, Director International Relations at Pakistan Television, told Arab News. "By June of this year, we will be able to send Dhoop Kinare to Saudi Arabia."
She stated that the move would not only generate income for Pakistan, but would also provide fame to local television programmes and performers, as well as assist Saudi people appreciate Pakistani culture.
"This is the first time Pakistan Television has subtitled a Pakistani programme into Arabic for Saudi audiences," Sikander explained.

During a visit to the Kingdom last week at the request of Saudi Culture Minister Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Chaudhry stated that Saudi Airlines will soon incorporate Pakistani television programmes in its in-flight entertainment. He also stated that Pakistan's art academies and actors will assist Saudi Arabia in establishing new performing arts institutions.
Pakistan is also slated to participate in a music event in Saudi Arabia in April of this year. Last year, Pakistani musician Rahat Fateh Ali Khan performed at the event, which was held in Riyadh's King Fahad Culture Center.
Dr. Awwad bin Saleh Al-Awwad, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Information, visited Pakistan in September 2018 to explore how the two countries may further their ties in the sectors of media and culture.
